"Gay"

I remember the first time someone explained to me what the word gay meant.
We were in middle school
Playing on the swing set behind Stoy Elementary
"He’s so gay," she said
Bitter disgust poured out of her mouth with every syllable
I could not think as to why being happy could be such a horrible thing
And so I asked
My exact words being
“Whats so wrong with being happy?”
Now both my friends looked at me weird
“Don’t you know what gay means?”
“Doesn’t it mean to be happy?”
“You’re such a little kid, gay does not mean happy. Gay is a boy who likes another boy”
I stood there wondering why it mattered so much that a boy liked another boy;
why it was such a distasteful thing.
And why it meant gay couldn’t still mean happy.
Reposting this because equal marriage on the U.S. Now!!

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I don't know what I would do without you.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
None of their beauty compares to you

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I can see a future and it involves you

Roses are red
Violets are blue
So far every last part has the word you

Roses are red
Violets are blue
That's because I'm always thinking about you

My spine is made of iron
My blood is acrylic paint
My tears are holy water
My eyes are raw stone
My mind is made of gold
My heart is matte polish
My thoughts are sinful fire
My dreams are wasted air
I don't know

Even though it has been ages
since we've talked
I know I got to you
I seeped under your skin
And I still reside there
Quietly waiting...
For you to feel that itch again
If you would just scratch
You could still feel me
Wow such a surprise~ Thanks HP for the daily selection honor and Thank you fellow poets for all the nice comments. I truly appreciate them all!!

can you hear the clock tick-
it pulls its strength from you

your body is
consuming itself- slowly

now faster
and faster
and gone

can you hear the clock-
it's ticking away
do you know it is
taking you with it?

i can hear the clock
i can see the end
why do you
play pretend?

your body is eating
itself. inside out.

you have moments
no, wait,
tick
less.
tick
yet again.

and again
and again,
and again..
