there’s a subtly
to your softness
the starkness of your beauty
almost hides

almost
it’s in her eyes
or is it her smile?

it’s a shame
that running from
healthy relationships
doesn’t burn calories

i’d be a size zero

Lie

Lie
If I lie to myself,
Perhaps everyone else will believe it
Too
It’s not really a poem, but it’s how I feel...

You Broke Me
 Aug 2020 Mila
Isabella
Have you ever felt so happy you could fly
Have you ever been so upset you could die

That’s what you did to me.
You broke me.

Right in two,
But I still love you.

Have you ever been so in love you could cry
Have you ever loved me so much you could try

That’s what you did to me.
Then you left me.

On my own.
All alone.
When you broke me.
Or maybe I broke myself
And you just didn’t bother to pick up the pieces

It smelled like trust
It smelled like truth
Like hope and heaven
It smelled like you

It looked like life
It looked like doves
Like sighs and smiles
It looked like love

It sounded like lies
It sounded like hurt
Like a deep crimson rose
Had been plucked from the dirt

It felt like heartache
It felt like guilt
And like all other roses
It began to wilt
it's been a while since i've written a rhyming poem

if you can smile
as you pull the knife
out of your back
and choke down the blood
you coughed up,

does that mean you’ve grown
strong enough

or inhuman enough?

and i know the earth
had to be spinning
because the sun was setting
on you and me

but at the exact moment
your hand touched mine

i think even the world
stopped and stared

my mind can turn so cruel
when all the lights go out

but you always seem to know
when i’m trapped in the dark

because you show up
with your smile and a rocket ship

and fly me to my heart
you make me spend
less time in my head
and more time
in my heart

because you’re easy to love

what does it feel like to be held
not by another body
not by a set of limbs, a chest, a chin
but
by another soul

what does it feel like
to see truth in another pair of eyes
instead of hidden intentions
instead of absence

what does it feel like
to hear a familiar heartbeat
resounding next to your own
reaching through skin
through bone
two rhythms
indistinguishable

what does it feel like
to write poems about
a love that exists
