isn't it odd
how we can know
human nature
well enough
to write poems
that move others
to tears
yet must hear
the words of others
to cry
alone
.

"What's your name?"
"John"
"John who?"
"John Stevens"
"Who is, John Stevens?"
"Me"
"Hello Me!"
A play on words... I do this with my kids and it's amazing how this play on words challenges then to explore other ways of explaining who they are. Kids can never explain who "me" is.
To make a poem is simple
All you need is

Nights of tears
A bit of blood
A lot of pain
A touch of peace
Heaps of feelings

All you need is

Pure exhaustion
Fear
Anger
Love
Sadness

All you need is

A whole load of
Emotion

Then when that explodes
Out of your body
You just need to somehow direct
All of it onto
A piece of paper

That's how you make poetry
Not that I would really know.... To all the true poets, I'm sorry, I don't mean to be cocky by assuming that I can write poetry. I know that I can't, I'm just trying to summarize how I write, no matter how bad it is
You were miserable and alone
Barely holding on

Then I came into your life
And I see now its only harder

That you're more miserable just
Not as alone

I was a mistake.
You deserve better than me...
Sorry I wasnt good enough for either of us
I saw an old couple today holding hands

and smiled.
I loved the way they still craved one anothers touch, it made me smile
What would you do
If no one loved you

Would you cry
or
Would you sigh

Love

Do you care
or
Do you swear

Do you look for love
or
Do you hide from love

Do you want it
or
Do you need it

Do you know what love means
Real love
Never ending love

are you a hopeless romantic
or
romantically wanting love

What are the feeling of no love

are they silent
or
are they loud

are they sharing thoughts
or
are they lonely thoughts

do you have thoughts of joy
or
do you have thoughts of nothing

do you smile
or
do you cringe

do you want it
or
not

It's actually not that hard to find

JUST LOVE ANOTHER
LOVE ANOTHER

I guess I won that stupid fight of "I love you more."

Love
To you, my one and only unknown love, I bestow unto you my heart and burning desires.
I've dreamed of our wedding day, and much more to come.
But still with a blank slate, for you, my one and only unknown love.
Like a rubber band, I may snap if you pull too hard.
And your blade, it might be too sharp.
We both have demons that we try and evade,
but unlike me, oblivion is all you crave.
You asked me to go, and I realized I could.
Because what I felt in my heart is simply what one would.
Acceptance of what we lost.
Forgiveness for what we didn't do sooner.
Sadness because its over.
Reassurance that I would be okay.
And the hope that it was real.
i am no refuge
if the past 2 years
have taught me anything
i am more shrapnel than shelter
with willing hearts
strewn in my wake
but i am kind
i will not salt your wounds
with these tears
i will keep my distance
but these thoughts like water
circulate silently around you
never straying farther than
these arms can swim
and i am weak
i am so weak
for the smile that found me
in the sound and the strangers
much softer and worthier than i

but your songs still medicate me

and you said you'd keep me warm

and i don't remember
what i said next
but it doesn't matter anymore
because

you said you'd keep me warm

and i am still shivering
so sorry for not posting in so long. i'm proud of this poem.
