poems in the clouds
tell me about your favorite day in the whole
world.
tell me about your favorite soul in the whole
world.
tell me about the day your world fell, crushed, at your feet and how you made it through even when you were positive you were going to die.
tell me about your favorite thing on spring mornings.
tell me about how the crisp wind and autumn leaves make you feel after a hot summer.
tell me about your mom and dad.
did they show you kindness to no extent or did they shatter your dreams?
did it make you who you are today?
I don't just wanna know your name, I wanna know you.

You do not have to be perfect
to be wonderful.
You do not have to be a super hero
to be brave.
You do not have to be wealthy
to be generous.
You do not have to be old
to be wise.
You do not have to be abused
to be compassionate.
You do have to be human
to be humane.

A shiny little thing, so small,
So precious, amidst a pile of stone.
Fluttered its eyes open, beaming
As bright as the sun.
A shiny little thing, lost in the stones,
Dark and gray, they gathered, like
Rain clouds in a howling storm.
A shiny little thing, drowned in absurd.
Her shine dulled, her spirit flickered.
She folded her arms, gathered her light.
Shiny little thing, take no mind, for
A stone never knows what it does.
A shiny little thing, weak and dull,
Move under the stones, you
Will be crushed. Look onto yourself,
Crushed, hurt and sad, yet far more
Brighter that those who ripped your heart.

When you learn
To let go of
"Your something,"
God will surely release
*"His something."

Nobody is perfect,
but I believe you can get very close.
I warn you though:
never try to be perfect-it isn’t worth it.

Trying to be perfect
Is what makes us stumble and slip.
Would you care to know the secret
to becoming almost nearly perfect?

I will tell you but you must promise me
that you will not twist my words
for I will be answering quite plainly.
Follow my instruction or you’ll only get worse.

Be yourself. That’s all.
Can this be the truth? The sought-after secret?
Yes! Believe me and believe most of all:

Every person is born unique.
Who should seek to be like someone else when
the person they are is their very own?
I pray that when you play this hide-and-seek
you will  find yourself
and see the perfect you that I see-
the you that I love,
the true you that, in my heart, I will always carry.
