the lights on the dingy carnival rides glistened with a new kind of hope I still can't explain. the last thief's kiss still lingered on my lips and I felt well off. content with where I was standing in line and in life, you stepped in right then and intervened.
taken back by the small talk at first, I took quickly to what you had to say. felt a spark, but I was too afraid of having my fiery feelings extinguished.  Accustomed to being burned I was hesitant to let you in. There were so many unclosed doors I still can't help but to think about. Falling for you, falling for you of course it didn't take long. This time though was different- you caught me. Perhaps this is why when "Hey howdy hey" from an ex-flame came up across my phone screen, I felt super perplexed. Funny how just when you're happy and comfortable and ready to move on, a text from someone you were so sure lived in your past can trigger a thousand different emotions. Those icy blues I wondered so much about these past 8 months just had to peek in to throw me off. Sometimes though  it's way too late for sorry. Trying so hard not to think about the past, I remember the way that the lights reflected in your eyes that breezy August carnival night and kiss you harder. I want you to stick around.

sometimes i go outside
i look at the sky
and wonder
will i ever see your face

the wind kisses my skin
gently blowing lace from my shoulder
and i can't tell you
how many times
i've imagined it's your hands

sometimes i go outside
to undress with the sky & the stars
and every time i do
i hope the night has come,
and he is watching

20.
there is not
much to being
twenty, you
spend months
still calling yourself
nineteen in attempts
to get a firm grasp
on reality.

You don't know my life,
You don't know the struggles I've been through,
You don't know the things I dealt with,
or the people who have hurt me,
and broken me down.
~
I let people use me like a doormat,
You don't know the betrayal I've encountered,
You don't know how I feel inside,
You only see the act I put on,
on the outside.
~
Afraid to stand up for myself,
Afraid to show the real me,
Afraid to be hurt even more,
Afraid to speak up,
Afraid to want something.
~
SO...
~
Emotionally I'm done,
Mentally I'm drained,
Spiritually I feel dead inside,
but yet somehow,
Physically I smile.
~
But, no...
You do not know me...
because if you did,
You wouldn't use me like a doormat,
Or treat me like trash.
~
You wouldn't beat me down,
you'd help me up...
If you knew me, you wouldn't treat me like I'm worthless,
You'd know life is hard enough,
without being kicked while already down.
~
You
Do
Not
Know
Me

When I was young
I thought that the hardest thing I would ever do
Was face the mean girls down the street
And falling asleep when it was time

Now as I've grown older
I realized the hardest thing I would ever do
Is looking into those eyes
As you said goodbye
And waking up when it is time
You've returned to her
But you've forgotten to return my heart..
