It's like soda-
Bubbly. Sweet.
It's like sun-
Warm. Bright.
It's like movies-
Neverending. Timeless.

expectations low-
another day aimed my way

- till the sky became
a color never named
and changed my world - again,

a new day.

The night
the moon started
to drip
a silver drop
fell from
it's tip
and carved
in the dark
the sweep
of an arc
so fine
we thought heaven
had split.

Something made me smile
as I passed the place today
where the beech nuts used to pile
and the squirrels used to play
and the workman with the frown
that is sawn into his face
came to take the old tree down
and leave a raw and empty place.

'Let her be a wooden tombstone,
she was getting out of hand'
declared a rubber stamped official
but he didn't understand
that all her strength was in her roots
and her roots were all still there
and today I smiled and watched
her raise ******* in the air.

~

Painted in a corner

Smeared about the floor

Chants of lone forgiveness

Quiet in the war

“Deafening the sound of death”

Garden roses trampled

Broken stems abound

Wilting on the visions

Blooming losses found

“Petals of peace scattered carelessly”

Blood along the pathway

Eyes hid in the mist

Penning someone else’s name

On this lengthy list

“Alphabetical to the grave”

Standing from the shadows

Crossing battle lines

Reaching for the freedom

Voices loud can find

“Speak up children, your voices matter”

Put aside your weapons

Time has come to cease

The nation now has gathered

United prayer for peace

*“On our hands and knees we pray… send the evil far away”
I was asked to write a poetic prayer for peace by a young friend in Iraq. This is what I wrote.

there's a sense of peace
that wends its way through
the folds of my diastoles

elicited by the dreamy murmurs
of your voice when it sings my name

and I cling to that lullaby like
marsupial infant

till our souls stand melded
in adoration's fire…

i have always been slightly overweight,
watching the numbers fall and rise,
5 to 50, i've seen it all-
but as long as i'm healthy and happy
with my whole heart i can say,
i don't mind

i don't mind having thighs
that go bump in the night,
i don't mind giving my lover
something to bite,
i don't mind having a body
with valleys and hills,
i don't mind having an ***
that gives men chills,
i don't mind that i'm curvy
and fill out my clothes,
i am woman, i am wonderful,
and i don't care who knows

with stigmas and diets
attacking our sight,
i'll give you a body that's
not under society's plight,
maya taught me well
when she told us all
that women are their own
and women are phenomenal

i'm in love with myself
and i don't care who knows,
i am woman, i am wonderful,
and i don't mind

Words dance at the poet’s tune
A grand symphony of feelings
Tugging at the heartstrings
The space between the words
Is where the magic lies
Music which enthralls the soul
Woven with the words
Which flowed from the pen
Birthing a poetry

Maybe that is why
I don't cry
when to my dear ones
I bid goodbye
can't say if it's poetry, just a passing thought...
I did not cry when my grandparents died.
I bid them farewell, cherishing the memories I shared with them.
Because I believe life is not a destination but a journey. The moment you die, a new journey starts, and this circle continues 'till you are liberated.

Moreover, I have seen people who didn't look after their parents all their lives
but on their demise, during funeral ceremony, they portray a false, insincere display of emotion, shedding crocodile tears.

All you have got is here and now. Live life and love your dear ones to the fullest. :)
