Milky Way
basil Jul 2022
Show me the Milky Way
I need to taste its creaminess
Mixed with your luring sweatiness
Because I'm trapped and you're ok

When I am wide awake each night
Not able to discern reality from dream
I go to the fridge in search of whipped cream
And everything feels just alright

But then the morning comes
The sun's so bright with searing heat
Its color vermilion indeed
And then again, I'm longing for the night and stars.

Today it would’ve been your birthday.
I would’ve made a handmade card for you as always
signed with a “love you” phrase and painted bouquets
together with some real tulips.
It would’ve been a perfect day.

But it is not the same this year,
I am alone and you’re not there.
God had another plan.

You taught me to be brave
and faced with trouble never to complain.
Even while fighting so much pain
you were a rainbow after rain.
You taught me on a stormy day to be a wave.

But it is not the same this year,
I am alone and you’re not there.
And out of habit I have made your card.

Warrior
basil May 2021
If anyone ever asks me my story
I’ll tell them a tale about a warrior
The one who fell so many times
But who managed to rise
Who’d cried in the night
But moved on at sunrise
Who’d been beaten up
But was never defeated
Who would fight for life
And no matter the scars she would win it.

unrequited love
basil Jun 2022
I dedicated poems to you
written with tears of unrequited love
but you never said that you loved me too
and sometimes I imagined us

I imagined us holding hands
walking along wet streets after rain
I remember seeing your smiling face
when you said yes to a priest, our travel to Spain

but painkillers never soothed the pain
this pain of unrequited love
that I now cause to another man.

Vitamin sea
basil Feb 2023
I need some vitamin sea,
to be careless and even wild.
God, I would like to live my life free,
go back to the times when I was a child.

I want to feel morning dew with my bare feet,
greet the sun, fall in love once more...
go flower-picking in the field,
use the shore of the lake as a dance floor.

I will build a raft using plastic bottles
and I’ll sail to the very heart of the sea.
If you are also courageous and reckless
you are welcome to come and join me.

What is age, anyways, but a number?
You can be eight or eighty, doesn’t matter to me.
If your eyes are constantly filled with wonder
there is no age limit to be free.

Learning to fly
basil Sep 2021
I am learning to fly every day, every night
I am learning to fly on my own
spreading my wings wanting to catch the sun
With the break of dawn

With its rays being so hot and bright
to be loved…can it blind?
I feel the weight of my feathers cling to the skin
and me clinging to hope like it is a sin

I hope to be always caressed by the sun
Lullabied by the gentle breeze
And during the raging storms
being able to hide in the crown of the trees

My wings are still growing, I am not flying high
While my thoughts are already somewhere in space
In my dreams, I am already far in the sky
Flying high at a fast steady pace

“A delusion?”, you’d ask me; I would say, “life”.
After all, I’m a bird learning to be free
I will think of the failures and downs in the afterlife

But for now, I’m not afraid to fly above the rolling sea.

Under the sky in May
Dear wind, ******* away like ashes
I want to be somewhere
Where my moon shines

struggling to unLove
basil Mar 2021
I’m losing you
Though you’ve never belonged to me.
It’s a thought of you
That finally breaks free.

But as soon as I see you again
As if an invisible string is stretched
It induces pain
My life is wretched.

Revival
basil Feb 2021
You killed her heart
but the roses bloom as on a grave smothered in flowers.
My darling, it is an art
to turn from the sun sunflowers.

When something is killed
it doesn't mean it dies
but, au contraire, life hastens its flow.
When you see tears falling from their eyes
it proves how hard it is to hold back their throes.

I want you to know that as long as there's pain
the heart may ache but it stays alive.
In all these troubles there is you to blame,
after all, this heart is mine.

a fractious soul
basil May 2021
Don’t judge a fractious soul,
It’s made of flame and sparks
And even at the North Pole
It’ll light a million torches in the dark.

We’ll not be harnessed and, moreover, tamed
With someone else’s reins.
That someone ought to hang their head in shame
And have our legs unchained.

No one is to decide
What’s right for me or wrong.
I am a fractious soul and care not a snap
For your opinion after all.

Someone you love
basil Jul 2022
For someone you love be always there
Like mama bird comes to its baby through light airs
Like a tide that brings waves to the shore during storm
And if you are far you can do even more:
Pray to the Lord who is always around
Even for those who think they are drowned
Ask him to be with your loved when you can’t
And you can be sure that they will be saved.

Rude Awakening
basil Feb 2021
She’s a vehement wind that blows to protest
To protest against life that she enters with zest
To protest against rules
To protest against men
She’s a reckless soul, age of ten

What she doesn’t know now is that by sixteen
She would lose her air thought to be evergreen
As most of the ten-year-olds do
when their passions are subdued by social taboo.

Humanity zoo
basil Aug 2021
So here we are in this world of lies
Where everyone seeks their rights
But for that
Is ready to slash tires
Of a neighbour or stranger or lover
Everything’s done undercover
Of fake smiles and sweet talks
As cunning as a fox
How to find the truth?
They say learn from the youth
Who has lost their innocence too
So just drink vermouth
And simply observe this humanity zoo.
