One day you won’t affect me as much as you do right now
One day I’ll find someone who I can sync with
One day I’ll find someone who loves me
the same way you say you love her

One day you’ll lose the power to make me cry
One day you’ll lose the power to make me feel
One day you’ll be someone else’s problem
One day your love for her will be someone else’s headache

One day I won’t overthink everything you do and say
One day I’ll be in a good, peaceful relationship
away from the violent rocky waves of the sea of You
One day I’ll be happy

And the thought of that one amazing day will keep me going
Through all the days that were made to bring me down

They say, everyone eventually leaves
Whether it be your house, your heart or your life
But what they never say
Is that they leave behind a part of their soul

They leave behind memories
Sometimes in pictures
Sometimes in humans
And sometimes in hand-written letters

Their departure holds a purpose
Though many a times it’s hard to see
For the heart is in despair, and the mind in shock
But fear not, my love, soon it will come to you

The Reaper is portrayed a villain
But he is merely a spirit guide
He leads the departed away from horrors
And into the hopeful light

It is said that the spirits find home
In a place a million ways better than here
But how can anywhere else be cosier
Than where lives your own flesh and blood

Those gone have a message for you, my beloved
They want you to know you’re loved
Not only by those who are alive
But also by those in the heavens above
Written for a friend, with love.

I hope you don’t judge me
By the pigment on my face
I hope you see more in me
Than the inches around my waist

I hope you stop believing
That age is a handicap
I hope you don’t seclude me
If we’re from different places on the map

I hope you don’t feel
As if I’m a threat to you
Just because my choice of partners
Is crucified by taboo

I am not the inferior gender
I demand equal place and pay
And when someone wrongs me
I hope Society doesn’t push me away

I hope you don’t shun me
Because my gender is undefined
I hope you don’t try your best
To crush me in the world’s grind

I hope you open your eyes and see
That our He was always the same
We need to stop all death and destruction
That happens in His name

I hope this system of division
Hasn’t stuck to your mind
And when it comes to basic rights
I hope I am not left behind

Hey guys! I'm new here so would really love to make new poet-friends and be a part of the community. Please be sure to leave a comment. Rip the poem apart if you like, constructive criticism is my salvation and is always eagerly awaited. Thanks a lot. Hope you have a great day and a great week.
Until next time,
Dhriti Seth
