when trust is broken, sorry means nothing.
The words trailed off
Like the gentle wind
They left me stranded
Wondering what's at the end

In the pages I fall
So to speak
In the stories of you...

...And I never want to leave

We're from two different worlds,
You and I.
I desire to reach out,
To touch you -
But my hand is swallowed
In the galaxies between us.
Your eyes are cobalt planets -
Deep emerald waves
Crashing upon their shores.
The smoke curling from your lips
Is dark, dreary:
The forsaken Milky Way.
I watch you,
And I know -
I will never close that space.
There is too much in the way,
Too much noise,
Too many opinions,
Too many disapproving, shaking heads,
And furrowed brows.
Our asymmetries are miles deep,
Coursing through
Your bloodstream,
Coursing through mine.

Happier

summer
when we kissed there was a spark,
you kept my heart calm,
your smile was my art,
i was happier,

wondered about your scar,
i am broken and in parts,
remember when we watched the stars?
i was happier, way back with you,

ain't nobody hurt me like you do,
but i know nobody could love me like you,
promise i won't fade away, not because of you,
if you do find someone new,

because i was happier with you,
your sweet words echoing my mind,
and i will smile to hide all of my pain,
but you don't know that i was happier with only you,

baby, are you happier without me?
does that someone new kiss you like i did?
but if she leaves you like all the others,
just know i am waiting for you to come home to me.

I want to breathe in
I want to speak
To your body
Like nobody else

I want to feel
I want to feed
Your Fire
Like nobody else

I saw the silhouette you left
Cast through my cigarette
As I said nothing
I felt all of it
i was once a piece
of beautiful paper,
cut into a heart-shape,
colored with red and
neatly placed at the left
side of my chest.

and then you came
with your heart on fire,
i am enchanted by your warmth
that i let you embrace me.
but i never thought that your fire,
would burn me down.

i was once a piece
of beautiful paper.
but now,
i am no more than
a piece of small gray particles,
ashes,
forgotten ashes
scattered by the wind

never to be found

i said i would wait for you

but I guess i waited too long

+

we met in the park, like it was

our first time.

"it's been so long," you say, smiling.

-

i've forgotten that smile.

it's been too long.

+

i nod, smiling and reply, "yes, it has."

-

"how've you been?"

"good and bad"

+

"bad?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.

of course, he wouldn't know

"bad," you repeat, letting your eyes wander across the sky.

-

your eyes focus on the withered leaf on a tattered tree,

waiting to fall from its branch,
waiting for its time to go,
waiting to let go.

+
"i'm sorry" he whispers.

your eyes do not move from the leaf,

but you continue to watch the leaves wave in the wind
saying their last goodbyes to one another
as they fly away in the wind, never
to see each other ever again.

It starts with a puddle or a pool
turns to a rivulet,
rainwater comes, fills.......then, over
time.....it becomes a true river...

we human beings are conceived,
nurtured inside the womb.....to develop
til it's time to be born...to this earth
we grow up.....we mature,
school...experiences, make us wiser
and, as we get older
.our own waters run deeper

we....are like the river...

our actions, reactions and decisions,
all depend on the tides of life...
our moods are waves...playful on a fine day,
they lap, roll...sometimes, crash on the shore.
calm now...later, high with turbulence,
on stormy days, assailing...belligerent,
courageously moving forward.....then back,
like retreating groups of warriors,
weary....defeat-stricken.......yet, all set,
to roll back to shore.......again...

our grounds, our cores, are embedded
with grains of Patience...it has a voice
in many ways, we become one with nature
we...are like the river...

(I am afraid of the water, yet, I love writing about it...
and when I write about rivers, a name keeps popping
     up...that of a good poet friend...Harlon Rivers!)
