Tears serve a purpose.
Preserve your water.
There will be days so dry
You'll cry vapour.

Tears serve a purpose.
Put pressure on your heart
Until the bleeding stops.
Get up and dance along.

Baby steps in the right direction.
All you know of this place is
It's between horizons.
Why so sad, little one?

Tears serve a purpose.
They're yesterdays leaving
The present. Blurring your vision
When looking back.

That's not where you're heading.
Come. There's more this way.
You'll smile. You'll laugh until
You cry.

Until your tears serve their purpose.
If
If freckles were lovely, and day was night,
And measles were nice and a lie warn’t a lie,
Life would be delight,—
But things couldn’t go right
For in such a sad plight
I wouldn’t be I.

If earth was heaven and now was hence,
And past was present, and false was true,
There might be some sense
But I’d be in suspense
For on such a pretense
You wouldn’t be you.

If fear was plucky, and globes were square,
And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee
Things would seem fair,—
Yet they’d all despair,
For if here was there
We wouldn’t be we.

My mind is a prison cell
And I can't find the key
A little quiet cell
With frantic writing on the walls
The ink so thick that
It helps support the crumbling walls
I'm waiting for the implosion
These walls and ceilings
Tumbling down on me
Will it crush me to death,
Or finally set me free?

With regards to Thomas Sayers Ellis*

Look at the
    Lucent lava lamps,
Dark craters
    Hiring hands.
We walked,
    Mimicking magma.
Hot, why is
    This heat?
Forget Vulcan
    And his illusion
Of kaleidoscopes,
    A rip tide
On the shore
    Of our conscious minds.
We held fire,
    Pretending to swim
Underground,
    But only out
Of pure respect.
    Some had boots
Made with
    The clippings
Of funky tripwire,
    Others wore suits
With goggles
    Clamped to their faces,
Gripping like
    Bay Area earthquakes.
One-by-one,
    Jang-strangs were
Attached to us and
    Hurled into the Pit
With rhythmic rituals,
    Waves of S and P
Flailed away
    Like flags.
One nation
    Under a new.
No one looked away
    From the fiery daze.
No one wept.

I was there
with you
when the Nazis marched in.
I remember
the small bistro
near the arc
Mademoiselle.
We were getting smashed
on Beaujolais,
I was curling
strands of your hair
between
my cigarette fingers,
whispering love
& getting lost
in your azure eyes.
When the smoked cleared,
things were never the same.
You left early one morning
in a boxcar
& I went underground
to defeat the juggernaut.
I never got your name,
just remembered you
were such a pretty femme.
In that cold, moonless night
my feeble mind raced through
a thousand thoughts.
But those thoughts,
cannot describe what I was feeling
as I was giving my own life away.

As much as I wanted to start over,
I convinced myself that it was worthless.
I had already lost faith in the things around me,
I'd lost faith in the things I treasured most.
But most of all,
I had lost faith in myself.

I'd always left the door ajar,
hoping that my miseries would finally come to an end.
After all, I thought,
would the world be any less different
after I had passed away?

I waited,
and death came.
He had knocked on the door,
and said his warning.

Weak was I, not far from surrendering.
But at the last moment, I remembered.
The thousand thoughts, memories, feelings,
all coalesced into one faint memory I'd myself had forgotten.

One one overcast morning, the sun still rising,
a friend said,
"I believe everything turns out well in the end.
If your life is still sour, then it isn't the end."

Like a violent stampede hurdling down a hill,
or a tsunami reaching land,
every part of my faith was restored.
From the things I had once doubted,
reassurance came flooding back.

He gave another warning,
before kicking the door open.
I stood in front of him, and said:
You are going to leave this house now. There is no one here to take.
Yes, I gave up. And yes, I decided to take my life away.
But He changed that decision, and turned me around.
And guess what?

**Today, isn't my day.
Something I wrote weeks ago, but was left here because it was too long, so I chopped it up a bit. Currently working on a poem for school, so I'm posting this as a compromise.
***(Thanks to Winter Silk for letting me borrow some lines from one of his poems)***
