why does it take death
for people to feel guilty
crazy isn't no guilt until a life is lost
Stephen E Yocum Dec 2013
Once I undertook a journey,
upon the very face of our entire world.
To view for myself the many pictures,
and written descriptions in all the geography
books and History Classes, National
Geographic magazines and movies seen.

A Quest to see with my own eyes what
I had only experienced second hand.
In my mid twenties, like a dream,
one foot in front of the other,
I went about exploring.

I sniffed and tasted the scents of foreign lands,
Incense, Sage and Frankincense, fish curry,
fried snake and even monkey brains.
Walked in lush Jungle Bush and Desert sands,
Along the shores of Islands and the coasts
of many lands.

Heard the voices of 30 divergent Dialects
and cultures, smiling and laughing with
the families and children of all of them.
Set beside the fires of primitive tribal men,
heard their chants to their gods above, the
moon, stars and the sun, the ocean, the land.
Clapped my hands and moved my feet in
their ancient mystic dances.
Drank their tea, Kava or whatever they shared
grateful for their offered unselfish brotherhood.

Stood on the flanks of the tallest Mountains
in the world, on my toe tips, to try to see the
face of the God of my youthful teachings,
disappointed when I did not see him, or Her.
Found instead an inner tranquility, imparted
to me by Red robbed Monks from within their
chants of Peace and wise earthly enlightenments.

Strolled the cobbled streets of two thousand year
old Cities. Walked among the ruined remnants of
nearly forgotten once great Civilizations.

Explored Modern European Citadels' of wealth and learning.
Over time rode on planes, ships, buses, backs of open trucks,
Horse pulled carts and human drawn rickshaws, taxis, subways,
rented motorcycles and cars.  Walked perhaps 1000 miles.
In all a journey of the mind and heart lasting three years.

And why you might ask, "What qualifies you as a pilgrim
of any kind, to travel so far, and wide?"
"What was I looking for, what did I hope to find?"
All indeed, fare questions.

When a boy, I read a simple five word line,
“Seek and thee shall find". Curiosity and
Horizon Lust compelled me.

The next obvious question you might
ask is, after all that; “What did you find?”
That answer is very simple,
I found myself.
Most journeys end right
back where they started.
It is what one learns in
between the going and
returning that changes
everything including
the pilgrim/traveler.

All that broken, all that beautiful
Left lying on the floor of your one room apartment
And ever after more, a senseless crime against the southerly divinity
Burdened heart like hopeless iron hides shy as the clouded sun
A quiet finale no longer true
Gunpowder plots like burial mounds half full of ashen skin
Asleep in this living war and the alarms are booming
What power holds in absence of clarity becomes windowed amongst the stone
Newly ancient, flesh to bone, blood and that which you call your own
Power lines slice green arbor air and my veins seek no end
Purposed elegance packaged and sold to greed soaked hands
Vanity for Vanity's sake, patients in a waiting room
Furniture, people, shameless sin unspoken but in need of no forgiveness
Can you feel the war in you;
Untouchable?

Ignorances innate wove curtain of veils
Cut usunder heretofore obscuring
Bodhicittas valedictory wintry gloom torn
Of enlightenments will factioning the
Silenced mammonish city kingdom truced
As the wings of Azrael clinch
Earthly thistles; monolithic raiments
Deposed Hull, Hell and Halifax parcae
The willowing of light unfettering Fenrirs
Durance, howling aconite psalms suspiring
Suffrage relict paving with mewed stars
Redemptions tithed talents bequeathed
Of Heavens sinister prayer burning
Acinta dusts thine ashes threading
The wilful sword of Gods destruction.

Aeolian dour fire meridians
Unfettering enlightenments will
Together Scylla with authority
Howling, Charybdis in oblivians wake
Shenting spindel meandering;
The schism termagating sirens
Repasts (diabolic manna)
Refracting ambrosial in the
Lap of Gods eye sophically conjecturing
Ephinany- times charioteering,
The nocturnal triunes discordance
Contemplating consequence thistling
Opothecaric sigels permeating lots
Obstruse lathed cerebral skies
Ruthfully roil whittling indelible
Epitaphs of serpentine repositories
Woefully dawning eternity castening
Harmoniously asunder truths
Deifying yen die.

Beyond the massif peaks of Europa,
Above the ancient pillars of Heracles
Where rain and ocean are weaving,
Lays a fabled kingdom born of waves
And noble strands, my beaten hearts
Haunting, the lost, lush sylvan lands
Of Galicia.
                   Where Incomparable, dark
Haired women, mythic, of Amazonian
Fairness, side the valleys and moors
Of soon forgotten dreams and secretive
Wolves slide amongst warmed runnings
Of the ram and moans of ewe, where
Way bountiful seas are over spilling,
In octopus and pearly gemmed shells,
The scalloped pilgrimages unfolding,
Where incense burns with under stars
Encased, the lost Atlantean temples
Of Egyptian sands and storied Gaels,
The clad forests of wandering Titans,

Where snow white beaches end forever
Unmapped in told footsteps, castaway,
As was the magi gift of treasured yards,
Enlightenments, of old and golden isles
Pearling the coasts, sailing the sweet airs
Crossing Iberian gates, to Elysian, eternal,
Galicia.

There once was a shadow who thought he was a man,
He made his empty bed in a shame of familiars,
For years if not an eternity he never did one single thing,
He contemplated creativity in all its smoke and mirrors,
His only credo was padding his unknowing, limp ego,
Got a gig, speaking before a throng of other shadows,
He rewrote the crook about his own insignificances, suddenly
Nothing's became every things, all was sorely well in the bleak
Under toes.  Shadowman had found his stage, had rearranged
Chaos and insignificance to the point of no enlightenments,
No regrets.  What a sage!
Shadowman aped, traced, spewed in studied literature,
Experienced, faith, trust, fidelity, danced numbers,
In a cellophane pack with all the added extras included,
Found that reflecting words only got in his narcissistic way,
Left the California sun for the New York lowlands
Of the east, that only shine after the hurricane's
Deluge.  Shadowman has reams of flesh plastered
On a mall of wallowing sites only Shadowmen frequent,
Modern is the moly man who makes his own myth.
Shadowman has traveled to the great southern climes
Where hotels of shade tell tales of locals and enlightenment is in a drug
Called something South American or other?  A drug so smug it is a plug
For his dun holy soul.  Shadowman is only a silhouette of himself.
He freely gives seminars to the lame, chained to themselves freely,
Where all the vain echoes are chambered, embodied, entombed.

Another for your book
to make whatever from
breed to respect those above
who have earned respectability
by wisdom, deeds and behaviour
honoured and revered in grace & favour
and could easily call Solomon in judgements & words
learn from your elders and drink the wine of experience

So tell me what to gleam
from uncouth marauders and thugs
or the coerced sheep begging green pastures
will malicious degenerates spurt Zen enlightenments
or the brazen prodigals share knowledge sublime & worthy
is one guided by the pontifications and rants of mindless hicks
or the lame & jaundiced drama of primed morons in hammed roles
does sense not know or see maddened crowd stupefied on delusions

In noble worth worthy
is the mind a carafe to pour out
and refill with plonk from sour grapes merchants
perhaps a structured & refined minds can be wiped *****
so obvious narcissists can park their demented rubbles & wares
do we not laugh that the deranged Svengalis' altering personality
begin altering their own personalities or lacks thereof beforehand
do we not agree that if you want to make a change begin with yourselves

How fertile, sniffing now is the serenity. Maybe this is the proud or sublime time of enlightenment, is it so sublime, strange? You can chat here only with mythical signs, hand signals and the quietest! Together they are here: young scholars, wise-looking prophets - monks who have remained with intention and tradition even in recent times. Together they watch the immortal immortality of the letters!

Then they come when the day is over soon and too suddenly over! The inexplicable ancient secret of books rests in letters embedded in letters; offering himself towards complete immortality! - perhaps it is really in this holy place that the remaining ray of hope, its light: The immortal, eternally thirsty thirst of enlightenments?

The greedy and insatiable thirst of the Enlightenment is now foaming the Knowledge into big sips to fill the still shoreless and uninhabited mosaic pieces of the brain! And man should always distinguish between immortal lines, eternal thoughts: Destruction and Creation!

To find answers to life's recurring and summary questions, and not just to answer questions with unending questions! The eye beetle, like bustling, motoring ants, is purring the silent, speaking camp of letters! And while an uncomfortable neon light with its unfriendly glare rays constantly injures the retina like a needle: The point is, let's continue - yes - on it, more and more, and more! Anyway, the latest knowledge is always discovered first, and only then does the suffering past come together from its crumbs!

And even if it is superfluous to prove it, the individual truth, because it is an evident one - something should be done responsibly to make the operation of human wellheads understandable here!
