I had a guinea golden—
I lost it in the sand—
And tho’ the sum was simple
And pounds were in the land—
Still, had it such a value
Unto my frugal eye—
That when I could not find it—
I sat me down to sigh.

I had a crimson Robin—
Who sang full many a day
But when the woods were painted,
He, too, did fly away—

Time brought me other Robins—
Their ballads were the same—
Still, for my missing Troubador
I kept the “house at hame.”

I had a star in heaven—
One “Pleiad” was its name—
And when I was not heeding,
It wandered from the same.
And tho’ the skies are crowded—
And all the night ashine—
I do not care about it—
Since none of them are mine.

My story has a moral—
I have a missing friend—
“Pleiad” its name, and Robin,
And guinea in the sand.
And when this mournful ditty
Accompanied with tear—
Shall meet the eye of traitor
In country far from here—
Grant that repentance solemn
May seize upon his mind—
And he no consolation
Beneath the sun may find.

Beneath long lashes, misty clad,
      Your limpid eyes are sometimes sad;
They bring to mind a homeless waif
Engulfed in rain with nowhere safe

Most times I find a cheerful light
Within your eyes that sparkles bright,
And though my thoughts I try to hide
                  My happiness wells up inside

At dawn I see your eyes aglow
      Like founts through which your passions flow;
And when I’m low they always loom
Like morning glories through the gloom

Your smile ashine beneath my gaze
      Effulgent eyes beam all ablaze:
            A look, a touch, a kiss I yearn,
You slowly make my body burn

While at your side and in a heap
I scanned your eyes, half closed, asleep,
And as you slept with pillow clutched,
Your eyelids with my lips I touched

And if you’ve ever wondered why
I try to search within each eye,
Though past is past, your eyes remind
Of bygone times when love was kind

Yet, though your eyes still cast a spell
They seem to bid a fond farewell,
            Reflecting but a fading storm
Although I know your thoughts are warm

But now our paths will part, alas,
      For good things always come to pass;
Perhaps it lies within God’s ken
That someday we may meet again

Fools blather about the glory of the fight
And don’t hear the mothers crying at night.
The wives of those marauders on the roam
Cry because their husbands can’t come home.
The children of these battle-addicted men
Go away, eyes ashine, never to return again.
And still the moneyed few, urge on toward
Yet those godlings never pick up a sword.

Mandates from government palaces abound
But not as many as the dead on the ground.
People are expendable to the military,
There are no pensions in the cemetery.
It’s all about honor they tell the press.
Leaving someone else to clean the mess.

Fight for liberty and freedom, they say.
They really mean die for them every day.
It’s all about profit and always was.
It’s that and no more noble cause
When a nation not being attacked
Falsely claims they’re striking back.
Then goes on to leave thousands dead
So they can wear a crown upon their head.

If you see no words of shame in this
Then you have found what is amiss.
These people are not motivated by grace.
They have the look of evil upon their face.
They already own most of what is here
But they keep a running tally all year.
As too much is not enough they crave,
Even if that puts us all in our grave.

Do you mirror the person
you resent
by time?

The ****** in your head
getting both your
shoes intertwined.

That you become them,
the more you
rationalize.

...

I lost parts of me,
the more pieces
of you I gained.

I learnt to hate myself,
your thought process
had me well-trained.

I am the eager intern,
you are but my
narcissistic boss.

When the promotion hit me,
I socialized, with
the intent of loss.

I gathered people, the way
you gathered my
awe-eyed interest.

I left them mid conversation,
like they were
uninvited guests.

My certificate of achievement
said, I learnt
from the best.

...

Do you mirror the people
your resent
by time?

The ****** in your head
getting both your
shoes intertwined.

Is that why my hand
is bleeding,
shards ashine?
