The Calm
Mind of gold,
teach me how to be numb, how to not feel the cold,
teach me how to be strong, to be brave, to be bold
teach me how to walk, a path , of a story untold
heart of silver,
let my pulse strike and unnerve them, like the hiss of an adder
let my tongue be precise, like the aim of an archer
let my eyes see through deceit, let them be crystal, let them be clearer
Soul of fire,
Let my heart love freely, let it aspire, hope let it acquire
Let my mind be calm, as the bombs drop, and we hear gunfire
Let my voice bring hope, let it sing loud like a choir
Because the situation is dire…
I've been waiting to write this for a long time
An artist should never
confuse themselves with art.
They are merely a vessel,
From which art pours.
Sometimes they are empty
And other times full.

βλέπω*

Hope flickers in gathering darkness.
War, sickness, death, poverty, loss:
we must suffer them all again.
The dark heart of being
wears the weary soul.
The common world of pain,
a place we all know best.
Yet even as night falls,
a new morning of light beckons.
Hope flickers but does not falter.

Divinity
And when you're feeling
less than beautiful,
I'll be the mirror reflecting
back the constellations in your veins.
You were born of the cosmos, darling.
Don't let a little stardust in your
eyes blind you from the truth.

It’s spring
on the shore
near Isle of Palms
their toes dig deep
in wet sand

until shards of shells
fashion a strip
that challenges their soles
as they tiptoe forward

A faint-hearted rainbow
bridges sea to sky above
while they walk
along the wind blown shore

She sees the arch of colors as an omen
that love fades
like the bronze backs of teenagers
turn pale in autumn’s shadows

He regards the
vague glow
as a pristine promise
that their love will grow.

He attempts to link
fingers as a sign of endearment.
She smiles, swings her hands in rhythm
and quickens her pace before him
