A Love Letter
 Feb 2015 Q

What if all the pretty words
we wrote for other people,
We wrote for ourselves?
What if we romanticized about
our own flaws,
Instead of those who shouldn't be
romanticized at all?
What if we wrote our own love letters,
Filled with all our treasures?
Could you write of your own pleasures?
A love poem to yourself
All that you've seen,
All that you've felt
Your freckles, the crinkle by your eye
Your laugh when you're high
The way you sing in the car
All your dreams to somewhere far
Could you find the beauty,
In all the small things?
Do you even feel the orchids
growing within?
No more 'I'm sorry's'
No more sin
I know it's so hard to see,
All that's inside you.
*If only you knew
Orchids mean delicate beauty

This heart has been
The smallest boy in the
Schoolyard.

Picked on, punched.
Called names, pointed at
With raw laughter of the

Cruel, cruel kind.
Grew skin as solid as its
Ability to draw

Lines, and stand for them.
I will not accept.
Sometimes pulse

Is the heart
Beating
Back.

Fragile thoughts;
Fractured dream;
Her graceful smile..
And the wounds heal.

Is she the flower I seek?
Or the season I'd want to live in..

Is she the star I yearn?
Or the sky where I'd reflect upon..

Is she the light that prevails?
Or the shadow I'd sneak in..

Is she the virtue?
Or the piles of sin I am drenched with..

Perhaps she is but my missing part,
Or maybe.. mere my reflection!

Ek sehmi si khwaish dabi rehti hai palko talle,
ek nayaab pankho ki talaash hai shayad usse..
Aksar khamoshi Ke lafzon Mei pucha karti hai,
"Aye dost, itna bata, kis gunaah Ka illzam hai mujhpe?"

A beautiful English translation by fellow poetess Sukeerti:

A scared little wish stays embedded underneath the lashes of my eyes;
Perhaps, it's searching for a pair of flight feathers- rare and precious,
As often, in lyrics enclosed by quietude, this wish questions me-
"O friend of mine, please let me know, what sin am I a convict of?"

I know there are not many people who understand Hindi here, but I thought I'd share it nevertheless.

naked for pleasure
not yours: beauty
