Or Was It?
Rayna Perry Jan 2016
It smiles at me:
Cold,
Dark,
Cruel.
It thirsts for me:
Blood,
Dripping,
Dying.
It wants me:
Nearer,
Sweating,
Fear.
It has me:
Gasping,
Panic,
Darkness.
But then, a light:
Awake,
Shaken,
Breathless.
It was only a dream:
Heart pounding,
Sigh,
Relief.
Or was it?

It's a Monster
Rayna Perry Jan 2016
It comes without warning.
It comes hard and fast.
Before you know it
Its wrapping you in its hands,
Trying to drown you,
Steal you,
Mercilessly carry you away from the world.
It comes and repeats
Over and over and over
How worthless you are,
How ugly or pathetic.
It makes you feel less than what you are
And it smiles at you
From inside your head.
Depression is a monster.
It lives and breathes
Deep down within.
Waiting for the right moment
To snare you,
Latch on,
Take you away from the light.
Fighting it is hard.
So hard.
And that's just what it wants.
To have you flounder
And wonder
If you'll ever see the light again,
If you'll ever have happy thoughts again,
If you'll ever escape the nightmare again,
And just when you've lost hope
Is when its fangs can sink in.
It's a monster.
And you are its prey.

Life
Rayna Perry Aug 2014
Life.
It can go by so fast
That all it look like is just a flash.
Life.
It holds many secrets
It has many mysteries.
Life.
There are many successes and failures
Many times that make you wonder:
"Life,
What more do you have to offer?"

Crisp Air
Rayna Perry Feb 2014
A crisp freshness permeates the air
It almost stings your nose as you breathe in.
Hats have started to decorate our hair
And warm sweaters and scarves have been in.
The leaves begin to change color and shed
From the trees that they have so dearly clung to.
The small and large animals begin to make their beds
Preparing for the cold that is to come soon.
As the autumn comes and starts to make its way
We can all expect it will not stop just yet,
But as we listen to the calmness in the day
And maybe meet someone we’ve never met,
We can have something to look forward to
As the days grows shorter and colder, too.
