As children
We who wore tights to school
   were taught
to wok in high heels
with a book on our heads

to never wear mascara
on our bottom lashes

                        red lipstick = harlot
            red nails = *****
            wearing jewelry = sinful

                       to be proper
                       to mind our manners

           the three monkeys mantra

So we still
Go downtown in our good clothes
Wearing high heels carrying a matching bag

We have expensive taste
Reputations to uphold

fast cars
      +
          faster boys
      =
           red lipstick
red nails
bodies bejeweled

We learned
All of that                                      Indoctrination
was nonsense

Oh! The high heels of heartache!
How those cruel shoes constrained us
the worship of deities can uplift ones soul or contaminate and desolate it.

Trump's bubbles surface
And his school covers him up
A little fishy

The American public is asking what's going on. He has the gills to change the scales of the country for the worst, run his mouth and twitter in horror, have countless affairs, coverups; and alienate and belittle those not agreeing with him. He's the biggest laughing stock that ever held office. It smells. It begs for impeachment and a whale that's hungry.

for vicki who loves this poem for the best reason ever: just does...
<•>
read a thousand love stories,
pause, rest awhile,
read ten thousand more,
and then deny equality.

If you ask for no more than you can give,
you ask for not enough

love is imbalance not an equation,
with a single solution

love has both constants and variable factors

so you write of tribulations and tributes
so you write of lamentations and liftings

you think you are on the same page
perhaps
but do we not all read at different paces?

one of you is solid, one is dotted and dashed
one of you is straight, one is bent, forever curving

when you think you are
in balance
in the same place
in syncopation

perhaps you are for a moment
a calculus of one point on a trajectory

and you say I can only ask for what I give
and am given
and no more,
you have miscalculated

this flux
flummoxed
when the old terrain is flayed flat
but thru the windshield you see the
plateau ends, the geography unknown,

when you see unknown
when you seek the unknown
when you give from places you did not know
you had to give from
when you kiss a hand
for  twenty minutes more than than the one minute you intended
when you give more than is asked
when you ask for more than you can you think you can give
the imbalance that  is the only concert
the imbalance that is the the only constant

how do I know this?

what are my credentials?

you are not a teenage girl,
what matters of what you know, recall of these matters?

I am who I am
a diversity of man and manner;
I am past prime and in decline
but this I know
for having failed ten thousand poem times
you must ask for more than one can give

but that's not fair!

silly one, still wretched confused,
even after one hundred thousand poem times

you must ask of
yourself
more than you can give
and ask no less
demand no less

a body in emotion is not a body in rest
when the imbalance is too great or insufficient

then you write a poem
look in the mirror that cannot lie
and move
on
or
move off

  begin to ask
yourself
to whom may I give myself
more than is asked.
then you have finally asked
the correct solution to the
unsolvable equation

Trial and Terror

Life is an accelerator
But I hate her
She trips on words
And works my nerves

Life pushes me away from you
Begged her not to
Indeed I lost
To sting the wasp

Life yelped in rhetorical ways
Pocket of space
When questions soar
In masking roars

Life cried herself to sleep last night
Polluting sight
As stars dim out
With clouds of doubt.

Elena
Her eyes were fiery
While her lips peeled away
Her sun was setting
But her colors never fade
When she bites she is bitter
But when she smiles she is sweet
Like a nectarine emblem
She’s the fruit of life’s tree.

The Stormy Sea

There was a wild fire
In a forest glum
The villagers screaming
At the top of their lungs
While the children scattered
And cried for their mums
The wind began howling,
And the wolves had now come

So tell me mighty river,
Why are you flowing away?
Past the gashes on tree trunks
And the blood pouring from the fray
Your purest fresh waters
Are now stained and at bay,
It doesn't mean your white waters
Cannot help them today

There was a sea serpent
In the eye of a storm
Her iris was burning
And she was whirling her form
Her venom was toxic
For all who had torn
Through her layers of skin
That she ever did mourn

So tell me mighty river,
Why are you flowing away?
Past these churning red waters
That our trauma has lain
The fear is engraving
And the worst is to stay
If your ripples of wisdom
Do not flow back this way.
