Life is a whisper
Yesterday, your laughter filled the air,
Today, the wind carries my tears.

We are candles in a restless night,
Flickering…
Never knowing
When the flame will fade.

Living on grounds, streets, and quays

Archaeologists of our time
examine the exposed sand
between the foundations
for the future

Retro is modern
cars are banned
tourists consume
the old town

Big money flows
outside the city centre
Within the canal district
permits are skimming it

Residents are leaving
the harsh world
of stone, glass, and concrete
they veer

to canals with islands
of greenery, to boats and houses
with hollyhocks on the facades
and gardens on the rooftops

To commemorate Uta van Ballenstedt (c. 1000-1046), married to Margrave Ekkehard II of Meißen, as one of the founders of the Naumburg Cathedral her statue was put on the facade; Walt Disney based the looks of Snow White's Evil Queen on this statue

I amount to much.

Just an
Expired thing
In the cabinet
You forgot to
Throw out.

A dog you should’ve
Put down years ago—
Barely walking,
Still biting your ankles.

A song you know
Will only make you worse.
Why press play
If you’re not ready to cry?

The pool you should’ve drained.
I pull you under,
Hold you there,
Watch the bubbles stop.

A broken fire alarm,
Screaming you awake,
Making you worry—
Why else would you?

I’m not sure
I amount to much.
I never did.
