The shooting star
I saw at 6am
Was the perfect reminder
That night does not
Have to mean darkness
And that even dying things
Can go on a journey

I will blaze and soar
My wish
Was to be that star
We are so different
And so nuclear
He, the sun,
Shining brilliantly
Loved by all
He is golden and warm
And the summer incarnate

I, the moon,
I am distant
And echo with cold
Very few stay to watch me
But those who do feel the glow
I am silver and fluorescent
But filled with craters

I do not know how the winter
Will deal with summer's return
I hope we survive
I hope he does not realise
That my cold
Could eclipse
His warmth
I hope I do not burn
Beneath his brilliance

I await spring
And it's harmony
His kisses taste like cigarettes
And when he's drunk
He'll call me his girl
And I'll smile into the phone
While he mumbles at me

He holds me by the waist
And I feel grounded but light
Like he tethers me
Without anchoring me
He doesn't know this

We sat in my kitchen
And drank tea and talked
It felt real in that moment
Like the future was now
And it was so tranquil

His kisses taste like cigarettes
And with every smile
And every time I see him
Staring at me with ocean eyes
I am understanding
His addiction.

He laid waste everything in his way.
The fierce smiling gentle giant.
Ball in hand and try after try opponents brandished him a freak wishing he'd go away.
Crowds did gather to bear witness to his talents as he lit up the world taking rugby to a whole new level.
Hailed an All Black great and a global phenomenon.
I will never forget you Jonah Lomu.
Felt compelled to put pen to paper after hearing of the Sad death of rugby legend Jonah Lomu. One of my favourite players.
A brave man who suffered from a rare kidney disease which ultimately cut his life short.
His rugby prowess forever etched in the memory of anyone who witnessed him bursting onto the world stage as the youngest ever All Black player during the 1994 rugby World Cup.

Rest in peace human bulldozer thanks for the memories!
