Looking into her eyes
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
He was in too deep
Caught unaware.
Swimming
Deep in the waves
Of her soul.
Her iris,
Like a black hole.
The gravity of her gaze
Enchanting
Heart stopping.
All he wanted
Was to look into her soul
And love her for an eternity.
He put down his mask,
For the first time
Since he can recall.
That moment
Was when he found life
In all its darkness and glory,
In all its entirety.

Where else?
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
If  by your side I cannot find solace
If in your arms I cannot rest my case
If in your embrace I do not feel at home
If in your eyes I cannot reveal my true form
Then where else do I belong?

Questioning conscience
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Its a little outlandish,
Dont you think,
To believe what you hear
And confess that is the truth?
Isn't it naive to think,
Think that the world is too nice,
That everyone's just as convincing
As your own nonchalant notion of life?
Isn't it foolish,
To fall in love
With the same broken heart
And still preach that it'll be alright?
Dont you think
Your life is much more than a period,
But it is one where you can be yourself
For the world to see
To behold
And to be?
If only you could open your eyes
To the things you thought were true.
If only you could let your mind wander
And set it free in the corn fields.
If only your ideas were a product of will power
And probably then see it fly in the wind.
Why do you hold yourself back
When you only have just this lifetime,
This short span of life to cherish?
Why do you worry about the petty things in life
When clearly you're so close to falling off the edge?
Why do you hide your dreams
So that you can be a part of some society
Aching to strip you of your individuality?
Why do you refuse to be you,
When this is the best **** person you'll ever be?

Nights like these
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
The night
Still young
And beautiful.
The moon
White aglow
Dancing in the dark.
Under the stars
You and I
We are one.

Utopia
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Its a little dark here
This illusion I created for myself.
This place I thought was perfect
Has turned into my nightmare.
My fears are bigger
And are haunting me as I cry.
I see a cathedral at the end of the road
With the three moons rising behind.
I walk down the lane
In shuffling steps of fright.
There's the creak of the gates
As I open and enter in to the night.
My life on halt
I'd like this to end
I no longer know myself.
The sky is clouded
There's lightening in the distance,
The only light, from the three heavenly bodies
Looming in the sky
I feel the eyes of a beast
Watching me as I enter.
I pull the door open
Oblivious to what lies inside
Feel the sweat down my back
And the lump in my throat .

A bright light bursts from inside
Blinding my eyes.
I catch myself from falling
From the mere impact.
There's an altar at the centre
I make my way through .
There lies my body
Lying like a living sacrifice.
I know not the meaning
Nor the reason
For the tears in my eyes.
All I know is my illusion was this light
The darkness outside trying to invade,
My only hope of being all I am.
I am not the darkness outside
Nor am I ruled by my fears.
My light prevails through all dark times
And keeps the faith in myself intact.
Here, where the light shines,
This is my Utopia.
Faith and hope, at the end of the day, keeps us going.

Lucid Dreaming
Meenu Syriac Apr 2014
Its this longing
Feel it fill the void in me
My physicality feels so minute
Next to this throbbing
So close to touch
Yet so far away
This is a rugged expression
Of a feeling I cannot convey
This longing
It'll get the best of me
My existence seem pointless
But now you give it truth
My longing is for you
And it is as infinite as infinity.
My fire lights up
Because you sparked a flame.
And now all I see
Is this endless array of colors.
I reach out to the warmth
And this powerful force unseen.
All I want is to capture this moment
And exactly how it feels.
I feel the first light of the day.
Makes its way
And I wake up.
Still wanting to be in this trance
This longing was surreal.

Silence counts
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Silence
The world around keeps revolving
Standing in the center and seeing it in motion
Faces, humans, people about
Rising and falling
Breaking and making.
I like this spot
Introspecting the humankind.
This silence, it clears my mind.
If we could all talk less
And listen to each other.
Make thus no rambling
Just talk what matters
And listen to what counts.

We could all then listen
To the voices never heard
The cry for a loaf of bread
The little girl who wanted to learn.
The man who never had a roof above his head
And the dying mother, aching for a healing touch.
What selfishness we have taught our children
That only the green can get us through the day.
What hypocrisy we have woven into our legacies of destruction.
Now find ourselves caught in our own web of lies.

Maybe if we could all just hold hands
And keep a moment or two silent
Maybe the cries of help and pain
From far across the desert
Will make its way into our lives .
Maybe then, our eyes will open
To the ignorance we "treasured" all this while
And perhaps then, lend a helping hand.

A Reason
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Darkness fills the landscape of thoughts.
Dreary looks and wicked souls.
Tortured and vile minds filled to the brim.
Tore us apart and stole our hope.
Their desolation keeps the locks on our doors.

A light shines through the thick fog,
A beacon, a beam of hope.
A Savior, a Hero.
A force unknown.
A reason to dream
Beyond the walls.

Dreamer
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Paint the sky red
Won't you stop dreaming?
They've only hurt
Every single one of them.

Right underneath the starry sky
Dreams, untamed, they fly.
Nothing sane they intend,
Burns right through your heart instead

Keeps hope burning bright
At the end of the day
Just a dreamer
Wishing on a star at night

Ungrateful
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Is the sky too blue for you
Or the seas too vast
Or your life too full
And your loved ones always beside?

Are you too happy
And that you sulk about that?
What is your vindication for
Your qualms being selfish?

What gives you the blind eye
When everyone else struggles?
What makes you cry
For the little things in life?
And you complain that life's unfair
When you have a roof overhead
And a family that smiles.

Born to the dark
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Beckoning calls
From far away.
Echoing voices
All through the day.
I see myself
So dark and cold.
Wish some light
Could shine through.

Walking in the dark
I was born to the dark.
Feel myself being stabbed
Over and over again.
Those promises people forgot
Leaving me fighting for breath.

Catch me before I fall
My hands reach out.
My muffled screams
Through the vacuum.
Music playing
Dark and eery.
Conflict sounds
Desolation falls, like snow.

A cosmic love
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
My self was no longer singularity
Another body to join the cosmic  dance
  From one end to another
Through swirls of galaxies and moon dust
Our hearts can no longer be but together
In an anonymous cosmic acceptance
Our souls unite with a lustful venture
And there is nothing but love.

Her story
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Just a ten minute walk,
Her life, she revealed.
From the grotto to home,
She told me everything

How life could be demeaning
But strength could give meaning.
How a place could change you,
Sides to be taken .

Death was a happening for her,
Life given, was a blessing.
She changed from a girl to a woman
Self sufficient and able.

Her dreams came to a halt
But she never gave up.
Life is never kind,
Neither is it unfair.

We choose our roads
We walk them out.
Decisions, actions,
Situations, moments.

Trust a few
And keep them around
There's love
Even if there's war.

This battle we fight,
Against the world,
Against ourselves,
There's hope for victory.

At the end of it,
When the trumpets sound,
What matters, is that,
We come out strong.

Bright red to dark purple
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Turning dark
Once a bright red
Now a bolder purple.
Slowly falling apart
Bit by bit.
A rose withering,
Petals falling,
Its beauty wasn't just in the red.
Still magnificent as such
Even when life has retired.

There by the window sill
Overlooking all of life yonder,
As the scent departs
And the thorns ***** harder.
One Saturday night
Someone's love expressed.
Embracing each other,
Its beauty beheld for a while
Lovers swaying across the room
Under the gaze of a fading essence.

Somewhere far away
A girl sits alone under an oak tree
Her lover never came.
"He loves me
He loves me not
He loves me
He loves me not..."
I had roses in my room, got it for my birthday. Each day i wake up,  i'd look at it and see it turn a different and darker shade. This is what i wrote when i sat and stared at it for too long.

He is
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
He is
The truth I kept ignoring
The life I kept wanting.
He is
The dream I loved having
The reason I kept moving.

Shackled and bound,
When he found me,
Crying for love to heal me.
Nights were spent haunting
The grayness ever spreading,
That's when he found me.

He is
The light that keeps guiding
The love that keeps me sane.
He is
The fire that burns through the night
The joy when all else seems dreary.

Tortured with spite
They held me back.
That day he came and found me.
Life was dark
My fears were strong
That day he came and freed me.

I walk this life
With him beside
He is
The truth I never saw coming

Hidden
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
You tried to hide all this while
Blew out your own light.
You fought to hide
What you really are,
Ravished being hidden behind.
Never spoke a word
Or even lift a hand.
Still a placid face
Through all emotional dues.
What was it that you lost?
That's made you so cold.
I don't even know
If you're here anymore.
You wage a lonely war,
Am I crazy to want a part of it?
Your world is slowly sinking,
Can I be the one to lift you up to the sky?

I am a traveler,
Life is my journey
Truth is my destination
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
There's only so much you can take before the world splits into half. The world you know of, is just another illusion created in your head. Leading battles and marching to the drums. That ringing in your head is always a sharp note waiting to go off. You could look at the stars and feel everything was right. Now look at the same sky and feel yourself slip into the darkness. Everyone around you wants to see you lose the battle. Secretly they are all just waiting to watch you fall. Putting on a brave face and hiding behind a mask, all the same, just that, its never you. You can take on the world if you want to. But remember there's always a price to pay. Love was a concept made to mislead us. Just a sweet note to hide the cacophony of the composition. Sometimes, its a lonely war you rage. No one sees you put on the armor, no one sees you run head first into the enemy. Who is the enemy? Dont be surprised if you hear a voice inside saying, its you.
Here I am. Standing at the edge of the world.  Should I take a leap? Or should I fall back and never know what lay on the other side?

Remission
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Dusty roads lead beyond the mountain pass
Waterfalls with gurgling rush of foam
Tristan, won't you follow me?
The truth awaits us back in the woods
The gory reminder of our eventful lives.

The morning sun rising above the earth
Rays of light hit the still calm water
The heart of life, the essence forgotten.
Collect your tears in a golden ***,
Save it for a day when grief's afoot.

The breaking dawn brings the unforgivable truth
When will the birds start their song?
Far beneath the layers of the earth
Tucked into some corner, oblivious
Our names embedded in red.

What destruction we have wrought!
The unquenchable quest for wisdom
Blinded by worldly desires.
Our unholy crimes to Mother Earth
Will Her scars give us remission for our misdeeds?

Little beads
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Out it comes
Into the light.
Glistening and sparkling,
Little beads.
Down the side
Her grief, it carries.
The fake smile can lie,
Not the corners of her lips,
They tell a different story.
Little by little
It makes its way
That trail erased by time
But essence still remains.
Down it goes
And meets the earth
With her story.
And that was how,
She shed a tear

Questions
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
When did this light start to fade?
There was a certain spark of hope.
Somewhere along the way, we lost.
To the world we gave up our dreams.
Devouring, unquenchable thirst for the unknown
Questions of what lies beyond the horizon .
Did you feel ourselves give away?
I etch my life on a piece of paper
Nothing seems to make sense.
You were there,
Transient but still significant .
I could have sworn the best part of me
Was you.
Now when there's only room for doubt
All I can ask is
How did I lose you?

A cry, six feet below
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Its past bedtime.
All I can feel is
My head writhing
Inside out.
Trying to lie still
But what hits you harder
Than a broken wing?
Shadows loom like
Ghostly taunts of lost days.
A knife on my back
His taste on my lips.
Some long forgotten love
Threw me to hell.
Eyes open, mind awake
The nightmares
Even then haunt.

Voices from within the grave
A light not seen for
A hundred years.
This box encased around me
Imprisoned and locked
Away from the ordinary folk .
The religious charms and
Superstitious trinkets
The false belief of security.
No intentions to be a scare
But I can't help myself.
This itching ache in my breast
All I want right now is
For someone to put me back
To my eternal rest.

Living with a Purpose
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
Stuck.. In an ever changing world of emotions
There's so much more to life than just breathing in and breathing out.
The flaccid truth of a non ending endeavor
Your demons have molded you into an unrecognizable ally
Looking in to the mirror, there's no more hint of recognition of self
Lost in a swirling blur of contradictions.
Mask-like and permanent, your face has given up on reactions
You're here on an endless search for an unknown entity
And yet you forget to look in the one place where the answer lies
Your self... Your mind... Your actions.. Your deeds.
You are what the world makes you
But remember that the world can be what you make of it.

Here you are, wandering like a poor soul
Your image has lost its divinity
The one you built in pretence of some hope of a better world.
You forget to dance to the most familiar of tunes
You forget what you believe in
You forget that there were doors held open for you, once
You forget that your life has purpose.

Eyes will follow you
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
There's a painting that hangs at the end of the corridor
A woman in black smiles through her tears
A child by her side holding on to her hand, fear in his eyes.
I feel their eyes on me, everytime I walk past the scene
I wonder what plight the woman tried hiding beneath that veil
The plight, her son, his demons they awoke from a medieval slumber.
The mystic charm in her artificial smile
Her cheeks glazed with tears and agony
The son squirming under an aching burden
His pale skin has its own story.

My curiosity killed another cat
I stare at myself when I look at the mother
My son still holding on to his dear life, never left my side.
That man who walked in at the dead of night
May have fouled our bodies and spilled our blood
But he left our souls tormenting these halls at night.
I float across the corridor, my son beside me
Towards the painting resting against the trapdoor
Dawn has come, the light pouring in through the shattered window.
Till the moon rises, in to our paintings we disappear.

Slumber is short, our eyes always watching
Next time you walk through these halls going about your own life
Our eyes will follow, In a pendulum dive.

Unchained and free
Meenu Syriac Mar 2014
The wind blows this way,
Silence of the night keeps me sane.
The truth, I sit and ponder
As my life beats away.
Too many moments forgotten in pain,
Undocumented, unwanted,
Shelved in some corner
No one to care.

Listening to the wind blow
Rustling leaves and banging windows.
This mind of mine has wandered too far.
The world, I shunned
The people I left.
Maybe another soul,
Who'd love to join me
As I walk this realm
Unchained and free.

Look up to the sky
See prickles of light
And crystals hanging by
Some invisible thread.
Dance lightly
Under the star lit sky
A slow ballad
For our ballroom dancing.
Hear your slow breathing
Feel your arm around me
Hear your heart beat flutter
This touch of fantasy.
Twist and turn
And sway to your side,
Gently moving
Through our dreamscape.
Open my eyes
What dreams I paint,
There we lie
Underneath the star lit sky.
The wind in my hair and
Your chocolate brown mane.
The lights of some faraway city
Nothing brighter than our sky.
This cold winter's night
Lets forget the cruel world.
Under the cover of stars,
Tell me your story
I'll tell you mine.

Delirious,
What a convoluted world.
They turn love to pleasure
And strip it of its innocence.

Twisted,
This dry land of men.
Spewing words of foulness
Like toxic gas it dances away.

Hypocrisy,
Blind notions go a long way.
Dark men that hide in the night
Walk in packs and rob the daylight.

I'd rather be blind
To a world that's lost its way.
Children of men, beware,
Dont pass this baton of hurtful shame.

Stopping waging a useless war
Enough with these morbid schemes.
What this world needs

Feelings lost to someone during the day
Lose herself to someone else at night.
Finding reasons for how she feels
Life is hard,she recalls.
Tonight in someone's arms
Tomorrow yet to be found.
Dreams of princes, castles and chamberlains
But now she hides in her own disdain.
Looking for love she lost her way,
Now in the dark she fades away.
Money to earn,
But a bigger price to pay.
What she is, wishing things could change.
Body and soul destroyed,
Life has been unfair.
Here today, gone tomorrow.
There she lays
Her beautiful body
But inside she writhes away.

Over the hills, beneath the panning sky
The blood washed terrain where the men cry
Death comes in a fiery chariot
The dark king riding with a frightful threat.

Retreating warriors and fallen pawns
Broken angels and wailing moans.
In a single moment, silent reigns
Over the hills, a song begins.

Voices, heavenly voices floating high and low
The sound of a harp, the blow of a horn
The brave hearts rise to the sound of their names
As they ascend to the heavens, homeward bound.

— The End —
