I watch with a number of others as the blind man RAY CHARLES
Is lead onto the stage. With dark glasses covering his eyes
Like black bandages.  Once seated at the piano his hands touch the keys
And with head thrown back and body moving from side to side
Lips open and sound comes rushing out like a train going through a
Tunnel of night or an escaping convict finally free
With jerking motions like one sitting on an emotional hot wire
Blown down in an unforgiving storm with WHAT I SAY GEORGIA
ON MY MIND I GOT A WOMAN WAY OVER TOWN THAT'S GOOD TO ME and listeners sit transfixed that so much talent
could come from one blind man to compose and sing the blues
From the blood and guts of hard times

If you meant it
when you said
that I make you feel
warm inside,
then I’d say you leave me
smoldering.

An ode to destruction,
striking perfidiousness.
The very thought of you
cripples me beyond belief.
Disdain for you
dangles from my neck
and burns retched holes in my skin.

If you meant it
when you said
that I make you feel
warm inside,
then I’d say you leave me
lustrous.

Any attempt to describe you
would render me loquacious.
You are the feeling of
kicking high on a swing,
and a coffee break on an Autumn afternoon.
I feel rejuvenated and renewed
each time I breathe your name.

You could crush
or compose me
in one moment’s time.
You could curse
or control me,
love or
**** me.
Just never let
me go.
I let the things you say effect me far too deeply.

There’s a storm blowing cold tonight
There’s a tormenting whisper in the wind
My sword is useless in this fight
There’s a battle waged within

**** the demons, **** this flight
**** this soul within
**** what’s wrong, **** what’s right
**** the righteous sin

This storm has blown through me before
Red my eyes do see
Exiled to the killing floor
Wasted on my knees

The party's over.
My makeup left fading, the remembrance of something beautiful.
My black dress is on the floor, replaced by your warm arms.
I shared a bed with you, a surface not made for two.
Snuggled under the same blanket.
A single pillow for our heads.
I felt your warmth through the night.
A strong presence at my back.
Your nose crowning into my hair.
We slept pressed together, our body twining with one another.
I slept with you last night.

The party may be over, but I'm still here with you in a bed not made for two.

And if you cut me
wide open with your
sharpest blades you'll
find the best of words
falling out of my veins* ~
