He sat at a table across from an aquarium
A fish gulped water and would watch him
He gulped coffee and watched a fish
He pushed his food around on his dish
They were friends you could say
They saw each other each and every day
They never had any words to share
So not great friends- to be fair
But they have a connection
Just a small touch of affection

And that's the best he had at the moment
We'll be out of the woods
when
they cut down all of
the trees.
That quick glance
a stumble
the missed chance,
a chance meeting
the shy greeting
a tete-a-tete
the wait for a call
another meeting
not by chance
that
was the start of
the great romance.
Those drunken trees,
branches swaying and
leaves falling all over
the place.
Dancing under the stars
Barefoot in your haunted backyard
And all I can feel is the safety in your arms.

you say you’re not a poet but
with a girl like that,
how could you speak
anything less than
the stars?

If a man needs you to believe a lie,
He will often say, "trust me."

If a man needs you to believe the truth,
He will speak it.

I yearn for the days
when I could pull poetry
from my brain
like a string of pearls,
shimmering opal,
so beautiful to all.

Where    have    my    pearls    gone?

I think I keep checking up on people because I subconsciously wish they'd do the same.
