I am not the girl
Who the boys
Buy flowers to
Or love endlessly

I am not the girl
Who the girls
Want to be
Or be with

I am the girl
Who writes sad
Poems and listens
To music late a.m.
I fell hard
and my bones shattered like glass.

As I watched my pieces scatter,
I realized that my mistake was
trusting you.

I didn't fall.
You dropped me.
Many men had whispered to her
That she was the kind of woman that men sat around wishing for
That she was the dream type

But as she opened her heart to the love they promised to fill her with
They realized that she didn't need them at all
I wrote all these words for you
I wonder if you'll ever read them
She always said
"I love you"
first.
We're just a bunch of kids with commitment issues
Because we were raised to believe
That we have so much extra life to live
So even when we've found the greatest thing
We convince ourselves there's gotta be more
So we get drunk
And avoid any type of feelings
Because being numb
Is better than believing
That maybe we were the lucky ones
The rare few
Who got it right on the first try
They all called karma a *****
But she's a saint compared to timing
I don't think I've actually written a poem
It's always felt as if I was rather discovering it as I went along
Most humans drink coffee and wine
They consume television and mainstream novels
They feed their souls with popularity contests and safe relationships

But poets
We could not survive without passion, intensity, and meaning
Everything we feel is felt to the depths of our souls
We are the ones to put into words the unspeakable pain of heartbreak
The incomprehensible joy of falling in love
We are the ones brave enough to say out loud the diaries of a thousand souls

Us poets
We drink tea and whiskey
