Bells Mar 2017
Once on a dark morning, at the dawning of Spring,
I sat at my window where no bird would sing
In my dark musty room that I'd come to call home,
in the dread and the stench where all hope was forgone.

On this stagnant spring morning I arose from my sill,
left my demons a'scorning to head for the hill,
to look for the sun, where it bloomed all about
in the grass, in the rocks, and in the wall's dusty grout.

I tore the golden blossoms from the ground where they grew,
and put them in a vase and filled it with dew.
I took them back home to my dungeon of stone,
prisoners I'd keep, sunshine of my own,
to rot on a table, and light up my space,
to share in my misery, bringing smiles to my face.

I gave them my love. I gave them affection,
for in their short life span, we shared a connection.
We were all flowers in a dusty rotten room
that once reached for the sky before accepting our doom.

Like branches of Daphne, more glorious than Apollo,
the daffodils shone in my sad, grotesque hollow.
And when they had withered, pathetic with hurt
I freed them from their prison and buried them in the dirt.

One year later, while the afternoon is still,
I drive by the daffodils growing on the hill.
How dare I admire them, growing lovely and free?
They are the essence of everything I'm too cowardly to be.

I'm sorry sunshine. I don't deserve you.

Out here in the wasteland
Our hidden world is small
Everybody knows disaster
But nobody cares at all
It's too much like paradise here
Or maybe we're just too high
But if you live where the burning sun
Kills the clouds in the sky

You know what they call us
You know what we are

Desert Rats,
we mingle with the homeless
Desert Rats
and party with the rich.
Desert Rats
We live for the moment,
Desert Rats
And we don't give a ****

We're a young town, rich with history
From PS to Coachella, and all stops in between
Like an acid trip in a fever dream
It's like nowhere else in the CV scene
It's too much like hell sometimes here
Or maybe we're just crashing
But if summer feels everlasting
And winter brings a wealth of disaster

You know about the Desert Rat life
You know what we are

Desert Rats,
we mingle with the homeless
Desert Rats
and party with the rich.
Desert Rats
We live for the moment,
Desert Rats
and we don't give a -- ****

Palm Springs
Rancho
Cat City
Indio

Palm Desert
...everywhere else
In the CV where the d-rats dwell,
It looks like heaven but it's hot as hell!

This is where we come from
This is where we belong
A song about home.

Tiny lover resting gently against me
Dancer on the painted winds
Singer of the magic songs of the Old World
Angel born with pixie wings

You're my northern star
When I'm lost in the dark
So I'm never lost for long
I wage war with my childish heart
and still you sing my song

I know you would drink poison
if it would save my life,
But I'd never let harm come to you
Even to save my life

Let us run and hide
In the last of the wilds
Take flight into the sky
And we'll live there for a while
in a Castle on the Clouds
Where we'll watch the stardust shine
Above the strife in Never, Neverland
Where I'm yours, and you are mine

You're my guiding light
When I'm lost in the night
So I'm never lost for long
Our battles are fierce and hearts have been pierced
and still you sing my song

You were made for so much more
Than this provincial life
But would you stay forever
With me here in the sky?

Let us run and hide
In the last of the wilds
Take flight into the sky
And we'll live there for a while
in a Castle on the Clouds
Where we'll watch the stardust shine
Above the strife in Never, Neverland
Where I'm yours, and you are mine

My rose shall never wither
As long as I love you
And if you still love this sinner
Then I'll always love you
A lone song to the savior of this monstrous Peter Pan.

In my hands
I hold a bottle
Of fire
That burns away
The weight in my chest
Piece by piece
Sip by sip
Hello bottle,
My weapon of choice
On this stormy day
You and I.
Unstoppable
Bells Dec 2014
The rain falls down
The desert breathes again
And I awake from my slumber
to realize
The ground beneath my feet is gone.
The air is lively
as I left it,
The goddess
lovely as ever
But my feet I cannot find.
Victorious I emerged
From my long summer battle.
The illness is gone.
I've returned to my skin.
But I've forgotten
How to live..

No Justice, No Peace
If we can't get it from the Court
then we'll take it from the Streets
No Justice, No Peace
**** the Police
and what you believe!

Whatever happened to Revolution
Being the American way?
When your voice remains unheard
For which you suffer every day,
Your life is constantly stepped on,
Your rights keep getting taken away,
And in spite of the lies they spin to protect your oppressors,
You still keep the rage at bay
Because you are not
Above the Law
and neither is anyone else.
So taking matters into your own hands
Isn't going to help.
You entrust the justice system
to do what it's supposed to
Even though you know it never has
and is probably never going to.
But if you haven't done anything wrong and the Law doesn't serve you,
and only seems to defend the people who've already hurt you,
then honestly I think it's insane and completely absurd to
not only expect the People not to react,
but to honor a *curfew
.

*******
Do you hear us yet?
*******
Oh, it's inappropriate?
You don't wanna talk about it?
You don't wanna think about it?
You don't wanna deal with it?
Well guess what?
Nobody ******* does, nobody ******* would, nobody ever ******* could.
But for the people who don't look like you -
Aryan Beauty Standards
Hair of Gold, Eyes of Blue
Fair-skinned, light-skinned
European skeleton,
It was never a choice they had.

Oppression doesn't pick you
Based on qualifications
Any more than Privilege does,
If you think this case
Is not about race
You better check your Privilege, cuz.

I love my home, America
But I hate what it's become
Land of the greedy, home of the afraid
Kingdom of the Loud and Dumb
****-shaming, victim-blaming, race-hating, race-baiting
Sensationalization of the worst crimes in the nation
Religious intolerance, homophobic misogyny, blatant racial discrimination
Can't get with it, can't hang
At least not in the lynch mob sense
I am blown the **** away
at the grievous absence of common sense.

So when they lit those flags on fire
in the center of the town
I understand, and I can't blame them
the flag is truer up in flames now
And if they so decide to burn
the city to the ground,
I understand, and I can't blame them
I would wanna burn it down
