We make up somewhere to belong
And graves to disappear in.

And right when we think we're free.
We become new born trees.

I just saw a humming bird,
   Whispering a humble word.
You say, "no, that's so absurd,
to be humbled by a bird,
       let alone it whisper words".
     Delusional as it may seem,
This bird it whispered things to me.
Said, "take it slow" with humming wings
"Abolish all unneeded things".
Said, "life is now" as it zoomed by,
"Without this nectar life'd be dry"..
said, "take a drink and take it slow,
let it sit then let it flow.
Tickle your tongue, and soft your humm, Simplicity will keep you young".

Puppets we are, being strung along
By the unseen forces of nature
Beyond our mortal control
With a desire to remain forever young
Yet against our will, we continue to grow old

The strings get cut yet the nerves still twitch
Perhaps to return somewhere our souls itch
Lost in this bottomless pit of dream
And blinded by all these things

If the puppet master were I
I wouldn’t allow anybody to die
Even if you told a thousand lies

And at least you'd know
The true face of your maker
And if somebody broke I’d be the breaker
Yet I wouldn’t be offended by the foresaker

But I’m only a puppet to blind to tell
Isn’t that the real hell?

do you remember when you left my bed
for the last time that dark december night?
you were angry and i was cold
i couldn't give you exactly what you wanted--
your desire, a warm invitation into a life i didn't know i'd want
but now as i see you through tinted windows at red light intersections
and i catch our friends saying your name in hushed tones
i find myself face to face with you in my midnight thoughts
wondering what i'm missing from our past life together
slow kisses, warm embraces, soft smiles
the way you held my hand as you drove your car
the way you grabbed my neck and pulled me closer
the way you wiped away these incessant tears
all the things that kept me close to you
but i can't forget the things that pushed me away
echoing arguments, unrealistic expectations, alcohol-dependent nights
the way your irreverent temper slashed my autonomy
the way you despised sobriety but only around me
the way that I was never enough
do you miss me like i miss you,
or do you hate me like i hate you?

Love is a burning cigarette
That makes ashes
Out of the pieces
Of me and
The pieces of you.
