She wore a black dress made of the fire
and art of poetry
and she glided gracefully as she tip-toed
from star to star
with her soft hair spilling out and over the sky
painting the night the color of dreams
she danced within the gleaming
silk indigo flames of eternity
out in the dark where
no one could watch her move
and even though she
was far out in the darkness
way up high where no one could see her
and my eyes could not trace
the outline of her form
or make out the shape of her smile
I knew she was beautiful
I could feel it in the space beneath my ribs
and in the sound of my heart beat

She would drain the stars dry,
        corpses of lifeless mounds
hollow and drifting.

Hunger is a ravenousness
              unfulfilled desire.
Never attained but still stars scream.

Expired in the darkness,
               cadavers hang silently.
The stars are glistening,
         A sky of fireflies dying.

This happy gift of 1939
Rescued from the good comrades’ loving fires
From the liberation of censorship
From the gentle criminalization of thought

This little book and its happy, dancing lines
Crafted with thought and care and art and love
A celebration of civilization
Oh, save it, read it, love it, smuggle it

Because

More dangerous to tyrants than weapons
Are the poems of a people living free

We're almost touching.
we were walking side by side,
you're talking about cabs in your hometown.
I can feel the gravity of your hand, calling my fingers
whispering "it's alright."

We're touching but not quite.
you held my shoulder to protect me from the passing cars.
and for the first time in a long while, I felt so fragile.
In this world where I find it hard even to breathe,
you believed me.

I almost said it.
All I need is one ounce of strength to tell you every single thing that I have ever felt about you.

I want to find home in your collarbones.
Would you be kind enough to let a stranger in?
I want to seep in your being because I'm cold.
The world is harsh and my cracks are aching.

Almost.
Please don't ever become a stranger,
whose laugh I can recognize anywhere.

Be gentle with one another
the world is harsh enough
Be gentle with one another
think the best without judgment
pass on praise and caring
softer words chosen carefully
Be gentle with one another

Be gentle with yourself
accept your faults and imperfections
Be gentle with yourself
think the best without judgment
Let your spirit be free, your heart peaceful
Be gentle with yourself
listen to the voice inside...
but...

   only when it lifts you.
Not a favorite but I thought of it when I read a rather caustic work recently. Sometimes strong words of disapproval are needed. Sometimes they're best left unsaid. (As the old adage says "If you can't say something nice...")
the getting old
process
is a year by year
progress

we're all inching along that
roadway
as the minutes of the day
parlay

our clocks are set for a certain
date
and the timer has an inborn
rate

aging happens to us
all
it's something we cannot
forestall

we'll be ancient in the course of
time
that's when we'll reach our
prime

life's well trodden path being
walked
our wrinkling moments all
chalked
If I were a Rainbow
The children would run to me
Turning upside down, I would be an iridescent swing,
The children would mount my rainbow wing

Swaying high up in the starry skies ascending on the moon
The children do bunny jumps, counting stars till noon
Awestruck and desirous they pick a few
The colours pink purple orange magenta and blue

Swaying down to the flower garden
They would pick flowers from the boughs laden
Threading in a star and a flower into  an ornamental  garland
Adorned as neckpieces , running around ,making one happy land

If I were a Rainbow
I would dismember all the semicircles making one hula hoop
The children would gleefully twirl and sway into the  enormous loop

If I were a Rainbow
I would become one big ramp
The children would joyously roller skate  up and down
Lighting up the ramp

If I were a Rainbow
And all of these came true
I would turn upside down making one radiant smile across the sky
The children would happily smile back at me , waving me good bye
