My Aunt said
her nephews conversation about
Hawkwind’s music
was unexpectedly interesting
but she thinks the spirit of the age
should remain gin
and not a daft name for a song
My Aunt says
there were no expensive cots
in her day
Babies slept in drawers
After all if you forgot
and shut the drawer
you were very likely to hear them
Mind, she added thoughtfully
There was the unfortunate case
of cousin Ethel
My Aunt says the last time
she went to the cinema
it was Bingo.
But she thinks she arrived late
at the interval
Because they played a daft game
that went on for ages
so she decided to leave.
My Aunt says she has
fond memories of cousin Rose
the lost sheep of the family
My Aunt said there was no need
when she was a girl
for women to have the vote
as the men were all terrified of them
My Aunt doesn’t understand
the idea of quality time together
for children and parents.
In her day people had a few
and learned to ignore them
My Aunt says in her day
people read proper books
like Austen and Dickens.
Now young women just
lounge about
reading hysterical romances
and mango comics
My Aunt said there was
a fascinating documentary
about World War One last night.
A lot of soldiers got PMT
from the shell shock
My Aunt said she agrees with Green Party.
When her cat dies she will recycle it
and have it made into a draught excluder
My Aunt says in her day
it was like one big happy family
The kids went in and out of each others houses.
You could forget whose was whose.
Some husbands were a bit like that too.
My Aunt says
while Christians believe
all things were created by God
Many Australians believe marmite
is the Devils invention
My Aunt has had a recent conversion
to Christianity
And was shocked she said
that the Ancient Israelites
we’re into ******* in Egypt
My Aunt was amazed,she said,
to discover there was such a thing
as edible knickers.
It was better rather too use the eco cycle
on ordinary ones.
It was taking environmental friendliness too far.
My Aunt says
she can’t understand
why there is all this criticism
against gays cottaging.
After all, there is no reason
why they shouldn’t have
a nice home
like anybody else.
My Aunt says she heard young women
often take a mace spray with them
as it’s not as safe around here as it used to be.
She hasn’t any mace
but thinks allspice might do at a pinch.
My Aunt says she believes
that superstitions are nonesense
If they were not everyone with a black cat
would have experienced the Apocalypse by now
My aunt says she isn’t
sure about all this
positive discrimination.
After all, in her day,
there was no such thing
as equality.
My Aunt says
she’ll have no tomcat
spraying in the house.
She’s taking it to the vet
to be castigated
My Aunt believes
people should be allowed
to be gay in the privacy
of their own homes.
There is no need
for them to come out.
My Aunt says
men in Bali wear skirts,
but they don’t expect
to go into women’s loos
like they do in England.

first breath of morning
golden leaves falling from trees
riches of autumn
The forest will cover you forever
with drifts of fallen leaves.
Walking deeply to find a tree
with low strong branches
you look up to see
the sunshine from the orioles wing.

For a moment you are
the child you were,
laughing joyfully
with outstretched hands.

Four signs four symbols
the battle of evermore
is not over yet

stairway to heaven
climbs in silver chords to stars
might just get you there

when the levee breaks
o mama you gotta move
black dog chasing dreams

swift quicksilver messenger
captured songs from stars
Elegant woman
young and free
Not yet feeling the shackles
that are holding you.
Yet I broke free.

You are a bright and burning sun
within my lonely sky
You are a moon in darkness
a slice of apple pie
You’re birdsong in the winter
a flight within a dream
a fresh new book
a bunch of flowers
a bucket of icecream

I’m longing for a gingerbread latte
but you bring me a bubble tea,

Lucifer give me angels wings
barred like the owl
Fallen Angel give me claws
like Lilith in the first days

Lucifer give me silver songs
and brazen arrows
Fallen Angel give me poems
of love and deception

Lucifer Morningstar
raven in obsidian
Fallen Angel give me a spiderweb
to capture fools

Lucifer give me my child’s breath
bring rose to grey
Fallen Angel resurrect
what God withheld
If you wait
for a falling leaf
to spiral to the ground
the worlds golden beauty
will reward your patience

Autumn wears ermine in November
Golden girl at Winters court
Attendant leaves whirling
breathless, showing off  bright dresses
amber, russet, bronze

He gives her diamonds
and the silver shine of moon
Snowflake lace to trim her gown
and his frozen kiss

The dancers glide
over the dark November floor
Spring, a wallflower watching them
knowing her time will come
Lightning splits sky
an oak is burned
yet will not die

Sea dashes rocks to sand
a wonderful walk over
over golden land

goodbye english rose
I never knew you at all
you graced our garden

you grew from shy girl
into a woman so strong
fragile to iron

two flowers you grew
now lost without your shelter
candle in the wind

like Midas you turned me into gold
Marilyn Monroe
from plain Norma Jean

A factory girl
in a gilded world
might have stayed
in the shack full
of heartless machines

Might not have died alone
drugged in the bath

goodies save the world
giant cat just a days work
where’s tim’s obe?

goodies having fun
it’s goodie goodie yum yum
they’re coming for you
The goshawk barely visible
in the shady grove
He bursts through
like the sun through cloud.

He masters the skies
and his cries
open the new day.
My spirit flies with him
and does not return.
Graceful willows
drink from the silver stream
Ancient roots
supporting new grown leaves.

The gate is smoothed
by hands that yearn
for one last touch
of their child’s hair,
of their wife’s hand.

Flowers grow over them,
and trees shelter
the absent dead.
While stone bears testament.

But you are not here,
you are in the forest.
This I know,
no-one else.
The child had learned not to cry
that tears brought clouds
and rain to her mothers face
She learned to smile
she learned to please
Yet inside is a growing storm
that someday may break

“ Happy New Year”
at the end,
when we know?

heavenly angel
living in desolate streets
we need earth angels
My angel is calling
she has my child’s face
But her fingers are clawed,
she has a panthers grace.

I thought at the time
of the last tolling bell
I’d be carried to Heaven,
but  she’s an Angel of Hell.

here’s the jean genie
androgenous clone fashion
so chic on his back

he is outrageous
a starman who amazes
with space oddities

ashes to ashes
star man shining forever
ziggy played guitar
The abandoned railway line
leads to lush green
and clematis tangles
To a stream
that broke through
the crumbling stone wall
Owls nest there and children explore
What man abandons
and time devours
Earth brings back to life
her eternal children
The child wished
that she could touch
the sun shining in the sky,
like a bright new penny.

It glowed through her fingers
like the golden treasure
her mother longed for
when she could not pay the bills.

She looked down to see
the sun reflected in a puddle
Bending down, she grasped at it
but it dissolved into grey.
Her mother’s life,
all over again.
