When you're in the moment, you feel so numb
And when you feel nothing, you think you're strong.
When you escape from that moment, you come undone,
And then you will find you've been suffering all along.
When you go through repetitive trauma, you may dissociate from it, and feel nothing. You may mistake this dissociation for strength /being tough, however it's just your brain protecting you from the trauma until you can safely process it. When you are safe, after a while you may find yourself reacting to the trauma then, and suddenly feel weak and not understand what is going on, as you previously believed yourself to be coping really well.
Emotion hits, and it's clear you aren't dead.
You never were, you were simply buried alive.
You've been dug up now.
You can feel now,
And you kinda wish you couldn't.

I can’t shake
This feeling
Of drowning
Pleasantly
Terribly
Honestly
Hopelessly

Hopefully

I want to cry
And scream
And smile
And tear my gut open to let out the millions and millions of butterflies
Because they hurt
So nicely
But so, so
Much

And I didn’t know you could really crave a person
Like this
Their presence
Face
Hands
Laughter
Touch
Voice

Their being

This scares me
And I don’t
For the life of me
Want it to stop

Knowledge is knowing
I can write beautiful poetry
Say all the right words
To motivate you
and
To tell you all will be fine
Stay strong
Show up for yourself
And
focus on the things
that really matter
You’re perfectly perfect
In every way

But
Wisdom is knowing
No matter how many
Beautiful poetry I’ve written
To motivate you
I still may not reach
Your inner soul

Because wisdom
Is knowing that
Too many people
Are forever stuck
At the age of their
Worst trauma

Wisdom is knowing
The voices inside
Your head will always
Be the loudest

Philosophy is knowing
And
wondering if I too
May be a victim of this
Beautiful world called life
