There it was
in plain sight
I stared and stared
but it didn't
look right
I checked the spelling
and was assured
that's the way it's
spelled

I said what the Hell

Something I saw
now for every day
How could it change
so much in every way

Jamais vu !
Jamais vu is when suddenly familiar places , words or people suddenly look unrecognizable and you see them in a new perspective .
Quatum Parker was a native American math **** . Born in the Blackboard Mountains of Oklahoma to Boris and Annika Schvartsberg who were pre-holocaust survivors who migrated to the U.S. prior to the infamous invasion of  fire ants in 1918 . At an early age Quantum
showed a proclivity at dealing with numbers which he picked up by watching Crows count in a mysterious beek and claw adaptation of the hood system of physically applied pressure points . Or as it is known today
as the fast break and dump system . Unfortunately Quantum had the misfortune one day of running into Little Bear legally coming down the mountain which so startled him he slipped and fell to his death . But we can all thank Quantum for leaving us a legacy of calculus of how many bounces it takes to **** a number .

If you were to say I've done a lot wrong
You would be right
If you were to say I knew right from wrong all along
You would be right
If I were to say I know I will win this fight
I would be wrong
If I said at the end of this tunnel I see light
I would be wrong

Will tonight be the night
I give up the fight?
Come to think of it
We don't have the right
To extinguish our own light
And for those who do
Compassion can be so finite
Gotta wait for hindsight

I don't know what can be done,
But I've never felt as lonely
As I do when I'm not alone
And though I know it's not me only
I feel like the only one

the speedometer that measures the
acceleration and deceleration of
time in our lives journey is
remarkably similar to the one
we employ in our vehicles

intra moment we can move from
slowness to rapidity in minuscule
amounts of seconds, all the while,
those few bursts of being high, are
parcel of a longer cross country trip
that could be calculated in years,
decades, even life-spans

though we lack the visual imprimatur
upon our eyes of our exact speed most
times, we always have in our possess
a notional beginning and ending

we take a trip to grocery store, up/down
to NYC, fly to Paris just because, and return
home to bury and burn loved ones,
witnesses and fellow travelers to the
longer segments of our irregularly
configured continuum

here, you sigh, why, do you trouble us
with this obvious observation when
we have so much to do, so many roles
to don, and the kids need milk for cereal,
which is a thirty minute round trip that
should have not been necessary had
we “organized our moments of movement
far better organized!

perspicacity.

this word has been mindful for me for a
days, while bits and bobs, of a poem’s
composition blurted up and out, in
some disarray, while the mind, tries
to collect them all, all for one, for
later collation and an unknown
destination

the wisdom to see down the road.
to plan accordingly, when we can oft
not* see around the next corner,
or even the next single steps we “plan”
to take, made without any thought
thereof

is there a poem in here, somewhere, Oh Sinner-man?
perhaps…or, just an indifferent end?
If fusty galaxies twirl like Shakespearian poetry,
is astrology a tragedy or a comedy?

Are there clusters of tumbling uppercase in outer space,
the remnants of conceit metaphors that broke up like meteors?

My scattered universe is full of orphaned verse.
Why do terse alien names all have hyphens?

Quatrains swirl in fiery hues across the ecliptic plane,
and sonnets streak by, like sparkling comets.

Argh! Where’s a pencil - too late - the thought’s gone.
Ever lose something essential - cause you couldn’t find a pencil?

It’s ok though, it’s not just me and not just you.
Black holes are swallowing Haiku too.

I saw a line with something like, “universe of orphaned verse,” in a poem a few days ago. The idea of celestial words rhyming with writing terms ‘mused’ me. I’ve been looking for the author to credit them (hello, computer searches). If you know the guilty party, please let me know.

*No, this is NOT a sonnet, it’s just the name
BLT Merriam Webster word of the day challenge 08.08.24:
Fusty = musty, rigidly and old-fashioned.
