OA Agusto
Day after day,
                                                           His sun-dried palms stretch out
towards the tinted windows of
cars worth more than ten years of his school fees.

Some day.
Behind the tinted windows
Could be Alakija or Sanusi,
Dangote or Saraki.
Maybe some    day.

But Today,
Behind the Tinted Window,
Was just another Lagos Big Girl.
Thankfully, a rough N200 note
Created fiction with his palm.

He needs only N300 more
He has been saving up for his WAEC forms.
He is going to get A1s across his report.

Ese gan, ma but E jo, more money? My WAEC-
You’re ungrateful! All you can do is beg!
And she was once again hidden
Behind the Tinted Window.

She turned to her daughter,
How much do you want for the D’banj concert?
Twenty five thousand, Mummy.
Bands of money placed in the hands of a girl
the same age as the beggar.

Once again,
A Lagos Big Habit
Passed onto another generation.
Alakija, Sanusi, Dangote and Saraki are some of Nigeria's wealthiest people.
A Lagos Big Girl is a socialite in one of the liveliest cities in Nigeria.
WAEC is an exam equivalent to IGCSEs or SATs.
D'banj is a popular Nigerian entertainer.
As I connect the dots
Of the freckles that lie
Between your light green eyes
My mind starts to wander
I say that as if this is a new occurrence,
But to tell you the truth it has become a subconscious tick of mine
It is the new dwelling place of silent moments and anxiously drawn lines
And it's comfortable
As you have probably seen
I am a nervous guy
Kind of shy and disconnected
Always viewing life from afar
But you chose to draw me near
From the midst of my favorite fog
And I've been stunned by the sudden clarity
How the edges of your fingers have become clear
Sometimes I miss it though
Because the sharp edges hurt
I mean the unfocused blurs in my disconnected world
Never fulfilled but also never burned
Never left me wanting more because there was never that initial taste
But now I'm left starving because i found reality in those lines I connected between your eyes
And I am ruined
As you gazed across the room,
My eyes caught your lingering stare,
To a woman who was not me,
Both not seeing, unaware.

Like a giddy school boy, I watched,
As she asked about your day,
Standing in disbelief,
Sensing this was wrong in every way.

My stomach hit the floor that day,
Followed closely by my heart,
Sadly not realizing,
This was only just the start.

Never enough, too much,
Imperfect in every way,
Wanting to run, scream, hide,
Like a coward, I choose only to stay.

Birthdays uncelebrated,
No tinsel on the tree,
This union isn't working,
The fault is always me.

Lousy cook, deplorable housekeeper,
No tiger in bed,
Tears stream down my face,
From words uttered & ones left unsaid.

Listen up 'gentle' men,
This shouldn't come as a surprise,
The true beauty of a woman,
Does not in fact lie between her thighs.

Love her laugh, her heart,
her smile,
Value these things,
& she may just stay awhile.

Don't win her over with baubles & bling,
court her with fancy dinners,
These mean nothing.

Write her a poem,
Leave her a letter,
These are the honey, gold, & nectar.

Moments shared, hands held,
A warm hug, a gentle touch,
These are the things of true value,
These are the things we all want so much.

Forgive me if my honesty
Isn't quite on trend,
But truth be told, what this world need more of,
Isn't lovers,
But ride or die friends.
We breathe in green oxygen
as earth swallows poison
And the cycle begins again
Formed from of clay
Breathed into one day
Transmutation of dirt and freewill
So take a breath, breathe
We do until death
And then sigh for relief
or gasp for whats left
Dirt. That can change the world. BEAUTIFULLY FEARFULLY WONDERFULLY MADE.

I keep
  falling into love
and walking into walls
tripping over boundaries
    and overstepping limits
I guess the only thing
  you left me
was a diminished
      sense of space.
