I love you with my heart and soul
Made sure I was safe and kept my stomach full
Taught me how to ride a bike and how to park a car
When I need you you're never too far
But see you only have 100 years to live
And I want to see you make it that far
But the way you're drinking is leaving deep scars
You have to know the bottle has control over you
Everyday you have to have more than just two
You guzzle and you stumble
And when I look in your eyes sometimes I don't see my dad but just some drunk guy
I've seen how liquor slowly destroys
So I have to say thank you because it's something I'll always avoid
Don't be stubborn for once just listen to me
I wish you could look through my eyes and see what I see
Your health is in a downward spiral
I would do anything to see more sober smiles
But alcohol can take over your mind
And eventually it will be all you're ever trying to find
Do it for yourself, your family and me
Get on your knees for God and plea
I pray you realize before it's too late
Honestly I'm not sure how much more you can take

What do you want from me?
My heart is yours as it flutters in my chest at the thought of you
The spaces in my mind are all occupied with the remembrance of the way you’ve held me
The movement of my pace begins to slow when I think too much about it
You have a control over me
But somehow you want more
Even the tears that come from my eyes seem to scream your name as they fall
What more can I give you?

Now it seems like you want to erase me
Lock up our memories and throw away the key
Act like you never loved me at all
Pretend I didn't give you my hand each time you would fall
But you know I was there when everything fell apart
And you tore open my chest and took out my heart
You never gave it back
Maybe that's why you feel you have nothing to lack
Because I gave you everything
You still consume my thoughts every day and every evening
And I wish I could erase you too

Me and you were once one
Like a knot so tight it can't be undone
But we fell
We fell like a glass plate that hits the ground and now there are a hundred shattered pieces
And I know that you can feel this
This pain that lingers in my chest
Because you always told me I was the best
But treated me like the worst
The way I looked deeper than your outer appearance was a first
I saw right through you and I knew your heart
When everything started to shatter it's hard to find the start
Because one day it tasted so sweet and the next it turned sour
Your hands would love me and then fight me the next hour
I'm just trying to fit the pieces together
But most got ruined from the rainy weather and now they don't connect
When we loved the sunshine was perfect
And I cant remember the last drought
If you ever really cared is what I'm trying to find out

You said you don't want me
You said you don't need me
Love me
Want to spend the night with me
You said why don't you just leave me?
You said you hate me
Want to **** me
Would rather be with anyone else
You said you try to get away from me
Want to leave me
Want to beat me
I said
I love you more than anyone else

I can’t sleep
My mind is flooded with thoughts
I think of you
My stomach is tied in knots
Is perfect even a realistic aim?
A shot in the dark has been known to cause pain
And if it does at least I would go down with a fight
Lose it all for you
Whether that’s wrong or right
Can anyone else relate to how I feel?
Nights like these make dreams seem real

I feel as if I'm alone in a field
Army charging at me and all I have is this shield
In this battle I am the only one
Me vs them
I bet you can predict who won
I really did try to change the outcome
But there's too many of them and too little of me
There's water in my eyes they blur I can't see
I put up my hands I put up a fight
Still to be knocked down
In my sight now blue and white
The clouds are moving fast
The feet around me trampling past
I build up some strength I get to my feet
When my vision is clear I see I'm staring back at me
Shannon May 2018
And if I fall down
Maybe
Just maybe
This world is spinning slow enough
For me to get back on my feet
And maybe the day has enough sunlight
For me to look up and still feel the warmth on my cheeks
And maybe the wind gust will send a chill down my spine
Causing goosebumps on my arms
Just so I could still feel alive
And maybe the sun will go down
And the moon will come up
And the stars will show their light
I will rest my head on my pillow
Close my eyes with the darkness
Open them with the brightness
The sun is shining again
And the world is still spinning
Slowly

I know you feel as if your feelings are engulfing you and you're drowning
The universe so vast and you are just a tiny fragment
But your soul is so bright
It lights up a room even in the darkest of places
Warm happiness even in the coldest of spaces
If only there were more
Like you

Lying in the night
Blood shot eyes and salty tears roll down my cheek
I ponder why I was always so meek with you
Why all I did was love you
Just to be shot down like I was a target and you had the perfect aim
You held the controller, I was the game
I took the punches and the blame
You stole my heart, ran, and I tried to chase
Ended up seeing you slowly fade away at the end of the race
You even took the last sip from the cup
I guess it was my fault I couldn't keep up
Too weak to fight
Left alone with blood shot eyes in the middle of the night

I hate the dial tone
And I hate the 'you have reached' before I hang up the phone
The silence between us is not golden
And every step I take is heavy with burden
You ignore me so you can move on
But I know your heart is screaming to hold on
Because my heart is screaming too and kicking me in the chest to try and reach you
The sound of your voice would be so sweet to my ears
And knowing you're alright would be all I need to hear
Because knowing your happy would help me get by
I would tell you I'm okay too even though its a lie
I would end the conversation with an I love you
And you would say you love me too
Then we would hang up and go back to living like we never knew

0100 and I’m thinking of you. I can’t get you out of my head.
0200 I’m thinking of you and all the things you said.
0300 I’m thinking of you, your voice echos in my mind.
0400 I’m thinking of you and the solution we can’t seem to find.
0500 I’m thinking of you as I start to drift to sleep.
0600 I’m dreaming of you and for a moment you’re mine to keep.
1200 I open my eyes and wonder if you miss me too.
1300 I start to think I’ll never stop thinking of you.

You're like a book with a pretty cover
I have yet to open but so eagerly want to read
Your mind has so much for me to explore
Your thoughts and the way you talk
Your heart and the way you walk
I want to study it all
Every line of your existence
And every crevice of your skin
Teach me how to love you
As I mark your words with my pen
Into the memory banks of my mind
So I can never forget you
Shannon May 2018
When can I save you?
I mean that literally
I wanted to save you
Save you from your misery
I wanted to save you from your pain
But I really made it worse most days and
You were Superman
I was Louis Lane
Ironic you were the one that I had to save

There's a missing piece
I've searched a lifetime trying to find
A void I can't get out of my mind
A missing piece
Could it be found in another heart, a lover?
I've looked everywhere, undercover
Constant in my thoughts leads to restless sleep
A part of me gone I yearn to keep
Maybe it's in the space I occupy
Tell myself I'll find it
False lullaby
A missing piece
The puzzle of me incomplete
Shannon May 2018
Out of all the thoughts that get jumbled in my head
And come out of my mouth in silence or in words that make no sense
One thing I can always say in the truest form is I love you
I'm sorry
That I can't always say what I mean
But I hope that you know
When I think of the person that means the most
My thoughts lead to you
When you're next to me
My eyes can't help but stare at you
Near or far
My arms will always reach out for you
I feel it in my chest
My heart beats for you
I’m not very good at poetry it’s just the only way I can express my feelings sometimes

What is it about love?
That makes you talk crazy
act crazy
think crazy
Makes everything else around you hazy
What is it about love?
That makes you think like a dream
Makes your heart feel like it’s ripping at the seams
What is it about love?
Where not a minute goes by without you thinking of their face
Always look for them in a crowded place
What is it about love?
What is it about love?

I don’t know
I don’t know what is meant to be
And what is not meant to be
When things are right, when things are wrong
The good vs the bad
I could never tell all along
What I do know is when I look in your eyes
I see the best friend I’ve ever had
And the best lover
It makes my heart beat but also tremble
Because I’m so **** scared to lose you
I don’t want to know what it feels like without your hand in mine
God knows it’s not for nothing
All this time
Still I do not know what the future will bring
I can only pray it’s you here with me
You
Shannon Jun 2018
You
As the day turns from a bright yellow to a purple and pink hue
It is so beautiful it makes me think of you
The cumulus clouds represent the imaginary thought bubbles over my head
That replay all the words you’ve said
A gust of chilled air brushes against my cheek
Like the way your lips do ever so meek
How slow the world does move
Almost as if to say it approves
“Let’s savor the moment of these two”
I always picture yours out of all the faces
Your love resides in beautiful places
