Picture yourself  taking the first of many punches
Picture yourself blowing out a few birthday candles
Picture yourself watching a doorknob turn with wide-open eyes
Picture yourself clutching a pillow and weeping
Picture yourself watching a ewe with a broken leg being shot
Picture yourself being guided by old hands who've seen war.
Picture yourself perforating a decaf coffee can
Picture yourself in doubt and guilt
Picture yourself damning a missed chance
Picture yourself gesticulating wildly and arguing about a parking ticket
Picture yourself telling a friend that you love them, and not feeling weird about it.
Picture yourself sipping the greatest cup of coffee you'll ever have
Picture yourself hand-feeding a small animal
Picture yourself shakily trying to appear like you know what you're doing
Picture yourself naked under a full moon
Picture yourself lost in a new city and loving ever minute
Picture yourself walking into a room and hearing everyone drop dead silent
Picture yourself roasting a marshmallow
Picture yourself looking down at a horrible injury that doesn't hurt yet
Picture yourself carrying a heavy load up a staircase
Picture yourself in an empty echoing room
Picture yourself making ceviche
Picture yourself illuminated by the blue lights of a police cruiser
Picture yourself staying cool and detached in front of someone you want to rip the clothes off of and make love to, right that second.
Picture yourself startled by a loud noise
Picture yourself cleaning something inordinately
Picture yourself in a boat on a river....
Picture yourself finding something funny, then feeling bad about it
Picture yourself remaining calm when a step-parent judges your choices
Picture yourself with the trappings of a more successful person
Picture yourself, standing in your best clothes, two hours after graduating college, drinking cheap malt liquor, on the balcony of a cheap apartment, beside the best friend you'll ever know.

Picture me as a rocket
Soaring through the skies
As I wave to you all
And call out little goodbyes

Picture me as the planets
Whose touch you won't know
Though I'd trade them
To be with you on land below

Picture me as Mercury
The closest to the sun
I only know what heat feels like
From the summer with you, done

Picture me as Venus
My oceans all dried up
Where I used to wait for you
With lonely wine in my cup

Picture me as Mars
A last ditch at saving
When the Earth is gone
And people are still waving

Picture me as Jupiter
Whenever you breathe in
Then sing our little song
And flash your beautiful grin

Picture me as Saturn
When you see the rings
The ones on our fingers
And on our angel wings

Picture me as Uranus
Rolling on my side
To catch a better glimpse
Of the one that is ocean eyed

Picture me as Neptune
A bright blue colored orb
So far away from everything
No sunlight left to absorb

Picture me as Pluto
A forgotten little thing
Though I'm so small and cold
I'd rather just -- with you -- sing

Picture me as the moon
Shining down on you all
When I try to get to you
Without the terrifying fall

Picture me as a clock
Counting down the days
That I want to go faster
And I need that gaze

Picture me as your timer
You keep me near your head
I'm there with you in spirit
And we lay by your bed

Picture me as the stars
Whenever you are alone
I'm always watching you
From this golden sky throne

Picture me as a fireball
Made of ice and gas
A star falling downward
As you just watch me pass

Picture me as the sky
As I hold up the space above
And look down and see you all
In faith and hope and love

Picture me as the galaxy
Far away from you
But I'm full of constellations
Remember when we named a few

Picture me as space
Jumbled high and flying
Starry skies you see
From the moon's teary crying

But picture me as a rocket
That didn't mean to leave
So see me and the stars
Whenever you wish to grieve.

Big Picture

If you want some perspective
Look at the big picture
Sometimes this can be
Really hard to do

You may feel afraid
To move out of the frame
'Cause the big picture isn't
A picture of you

Then life isn't just
About you and your interests
It's about your friends
And your family too

But if you take a step back
And look at the big picture
Your family and friends
Are all right next to you

So life isn't all about
Family and friends
It can be about your
Fellow countrymen

But if you take a step back
And look at the big picture
There isn't one country
But hundreds of them

So you care about humans
In all other countries
You want to help all of them
Flourish and grow

But if you look a little further
There's more than just humans
There's plants and animals
We don't even know

So you look at the planet
A beautiful planet
Gold grey and brown
White blue and green

When you're up this high
Looking at the big picture
There are no countries
Or people to see

It's a beautiful planet
Not the only planet
It's a beautiful Sun
Not the only Sun

If you take a step back
And look at the big picture
It's easy to wonder
About the other ones

So you send them some music
You send them some pictures
You send your address
Hope they'll write back to you

You take one small step forward
And take one big picture
So deep in the darkness
Our small world is blue

We've never sent anything
Out of our galaxy
We are still guessing
Its shape and its size

And if you take a step back
And look at the big picture
Some light is too far
To ever reach our eyes

The Universe is too big
For us to measure
We don't know what's out there
What could be, what is

And if you take a step back
And look at the big picture
There could be many
Other Universes

There is always
A bigger picture
You can always
Take one more step back

We humans all live
In a world full of color
But the bigger picture
Is dressed up in black

It might seem so dark
It might seem so cold
It might seem so empty
That all might be true

But if you take a step back
And look at the big picture
There is no distinction
Between the Universe and you

So don't be afraid
To take one more step
You're not out of your depth
It is deep within you

If you take a step back
And look at the big picture
Then every picture
Is a picture of you
