Charlie
The black veil shrouds my vision
I can't see in front of me, I can't see behind
I walk on, purely out of fear for what will happen if I stop
I walk for what seems like an eternity
I panic, wondering if I'll ever escape this void
I scream, hoping someone will hear
I beg to hear another voice
I plead for relief from this torture
I start to consider stopping
I want this to end
I can't carry on like this
Nobody to help me
Nobody to care
Nobody to lift the veil
No reason to continue.

O
•i found truth
in a saying i read•that we
start dying the day we were born
•not from life inflicted wounds from
which we've bled•not from illness or
disease that would have us torn •we
only live and breathe upon borrowed
sand•because we age; because we are
but mortal•it's only up to ourselves to
be mediocre or grand• what we'll be at
the end is consequential• it'll matter not
if we won popularity polls• or what riches
over which we covet and fuss•when asked, "for
whom does the bell toll?"
•look in the mirror for it tolls

His skull
like the ivory of a shattered tusk
smooth
hard
the still-moist dull gleam of cream
lining the torn-apart flesh

Clean

Look inside the head
its void
the most inner part exposed

The white of the bone

Free from the marrow of the chaos
the thoughts inside contained

Clean

The hollow warmth of its hue

You won't see
where the bullet burst
through the top of his head
like a boiled potato
lying in its skin
gashed across
and squeezed on all sides

If you look at the white of the bone

Closer, closer

Just look at the white of the bone
