Magenta skies
Streaked with orange
Make me want a cocktail
:)
niamh Jul 2015
The cheddar-like moon
Flirting with the bashful stars
tipping them the wink
Beautiful yellow moon tonight, but the stars are hiding
niamh Jun 2015
There's too much beige in the world.
Let me write you a rainbow
niamh Jun 2015
A tear trickles down
Mapping a trail of sorrow
Tinged with happiness
Confusion reigns again
niamh Jun 2015
Loving fingers
Trace tenderly
The contours
Of my face.
Touches like
Butterfly's kiss.

Should you lose
Your sight tomorrow,
You will know
Your way home
niamh May 2015
Sometimes
my heart is a
vast ocean
of arid land.
niamh May 2015
I read your words
And feel your emotions,
Am drawn into your worlds
And feed off your thoughts.

I'm the original copycat
Tongue in cheek shout out to all you wonderful poets who genuinely inspire me.  If you ever feel like I've copied your work, I apologize.  It never was/will be done intentionally :-)
niamh Jun 2015
Mutinous clouds like a suit of armour
Obscuring views.
Crescent moon finds a *****
And lifts the mood.
niamh Jun 2015
Be careful of those
crocodile tears
you weep.
They can
bite you
on the ***.
niamh Jun 2015
Children dangle feet in water
And trouts nibble upon
Their fleshy worms.
A rising wind whips fish
Into a furious frenzy
And the river roars
To warn the infants
But it's too late
And a beautiful baby
Becomes a ragdoll
I live beside a gently flowing river that claimed the life of a young boy following a freak storm
niamh Jun 2015
Watch out for the sharks.
They've evolved behind closed doors
And walk the streets
Without you even noticing.
Their killer teeth hide
Behind a dentist's *******
And their fins are hidden
Under designer threads.
They learnt from the wolf
Who has hung up his
Woollen overcoat
And passed the baton.
Watch out for sharks
They're the consumate liars
Who believe their own crap
Watch out for sharks
We're just little fish
In a dangerous pond
niamh Jun 2015
The sun sets on another day.
A family bereft and broken
A new baby birthed
A debilitating grief
A rousing celebration
A voice no longer heard
A song newly sung
A memory, so soon to fade
A future, to be filled with memories.
The moon watches over the altered earth
And tomorrow the sun will rise on another day
Life, however painful, goes on
niamh Jul 2015
You say you will bury me
In the ground
And roses will grow
To pay me tribute.
I say burn me
So the words you speak
Will be my tribute
As my ashes give birth
To their fire

The cool beauty of the flawless surface,
where ripples are a thing of myth
and reflections unwanted are
enhanced by a brilliant blue hue.
Where within the depths
the creatures of the dark
crawl upon their bellies
never to be seen.
Where natural currents rage in silence,
hungry for victims
of circumstance and naivety.
Where an act of bravery
makes fools of heroes.
Where the deceptive glance
could steal the sight from your eyes.
Where no remorse
is ever shown.
Where lessons are taught,
but never learnt.
niamh Jul 2015
I am a composer
of poems
and a conductor
of musings,
The words,
together
a symphony of wonder
in rehearsals,
fall flat
at showtime,
but still
they sound sweet to me.
And so I dance.
niamh Jun 2015
Dear diary,
I will spill onto these pages my secrets,
But for once I don't mind who reads it
niamh Jun 2015
I missed you
In ways,
Immeasurable.
Endless days
Spent
With a heavy heart.

Now I just reach out
To the mirror
And your fingers touch mine.

How can I miss you?
You live on in me
niamh Aug 2017
There was darkness
and there was light,
much as the morning
bows down
to the night.
And I knew not
which one I sought,
but I knew which had me
in their sight
niamh Aug 2015
At the end of it all
These walls will fall
And the naked truth
Of your misspent youth
Will stalk your night
And bring to light
The shadowed ways
Of your formative days
But shed your fears
And save your tears,
Your past will not define you.
niamh Jul 2015
She lives with
The ghosts of yesterday,
Reliving painful memories
Like a sadistic
Groundhog day.
The awful irony
Of taking care
Of her body all these years,
When her mind was
Planning a revolt.
Is she still in there,
The woman I used to know,
Struggling to get out?
Screaming at the injustice
Of her situation?
Banging on the bars
Of her rotting mind?
The very thought
That could be true
Is the saddest thing
Of all.
niamh Jul 2015
With their horned heads
And whips for tails,
Malevolent eyes
And malicious sneers
These demons scare me,
But not as much
As the ones who wear my face.
niamh May 2015
Like a foolish lamb
who falls in love with the slaughterer,
I never stood a chance.
niamh May 2015
Time to lie down
And go to sleep
But yet another thought
Intrudes
And keeps me awake.
Various scenarios
Play out
In my tired,
So tired,
Mind.
Where's the switch
On this *******
Brain?
Drained of emotion
Yet still they
Keep coming.
May as well
Try to stop
A river flowing.
Finally...
Finally...
I close my eyes
And dream
Of a dreamless
Sleep.
niamh Jun 2015
The memory of your kiss
In my dreams
Rips through me
Like greek fire
That not even
The pain of waking alone
Can douse
'Greek fire' could not be extinguished using water
niamh Sep 2016
You filled my world
with dust
and left me with
an empty cup.
Oh that salty tears
could quench this thirst.
Pass me a bottle
and watch me drown.
Treading water is not
for me.
Hold my hand.
I dive.
niamh Jun 2015
Providers of moments of pure gold
I can't get enough of my children
Except when the tell me I'm getting old
Then I want to **** them.

If honesty's your best policy
Then kids are the way to go
But its not all fun and frivolity
They don't seem to understand 'no'

If you're all for clean living
You may have another think
For being around your kids all day,
Can drive a girl to drink
Kids driving me up the wall today!
niamh Aug 2015
Love dropped
With the force of
A silken feather
Simultaneously knocking
Me to the ground
And lifting me up
niamh Jul 2015
I sink into your soul.
Saturated by your words
And immersed in your emotion,
I make my peace with drowning.
niamh May 2015
The first rays of watery light
The birds strike up a chorus
And the flowers tilt their faces towards the sky.
Little cherubs in their cots
Roll plump fists over sleepy eyes.
Dreams pack their bags ready to depart
And stars blow kisses towards
An iminent exit.
The world holds its breath
In eager anticipation.
The sun, in all its blazing glory
Announces the dawning of a new day
A day full of hope
A day full of love
A day full
A day.
All that's missing is the drum roll
niamh Sep 2014
The demons crawl
Under my skin.
They show themselves.
Occasionally.
When my inhibitions
Are lowered
& my hackles are up.
Testing, daring,
Taunting & scaring.

Why would I fear you?
I put you there.
Look at me.
See me.
you should be scared!
niamh Jun 2015
Let me sink another glass of wine
To bring me closer to the divine
I don't mean a God of any kind
(If you're religious I hope you don't mind)
I mean the place inside of me,
Where I know lives good poetry
Gotta love drunken writing :) don't judge me, it's my week off :)
niamh Jun 2015
The summer sun
Dries the tears
Of yesterday
That they are borne
Upon the wind
To carry
The dreams
Of tomorrow
niamh Jun 2015
Shadows sliding down,
Enshrouding the mountainside,
Heralding day's end
niamh Jun 2015
A cool mist hovers
Over the sleepy mountains
Masking their beauty
niamh Jun 2015
Poets read
Poets write
No poet is wrong or right
niamh Jun 2015
I want to bite the flesh of your words
And let the juice of your truth trickle down my throat.
I want to inhale the scent of your joy
And graze upon your sadness
I want to devour your pain
And consume your pleasure
I want to feast on all parts of you
And relish every mouthful
Until my belly can take no more
niamh Oct 2014
A goodnight kiss
So gentle and brief
Like the brush of a snowflake
As it touches a leaf.

I loved you then
And i love you now.
Do you still love me?
And if so, how?

I'm the bad one,
The cancer, the rot in your life.
The mother of your children,
The one you call 'wife'

I'm a liar, a gambler,
A thief of laughter.
But you love me still
And forever after.
niamh May 2015
I offer up my soul
One word at a time
niamh Jun 2015
All men are created equal

.............

Except some

..............

Some are better
My nod to George Orwell
niamh May 2015
If I was a
Mathematical genius
I'm sure I would
See
Perfect patterns
In the way you move.

Like a perfect circle,
People would try
To recreate
Your essential spark.

Pi would
Look upon you
Jealously.

I'm no mathematician,
But this
Equation
Works for me.
niamh May 2015
Bodies grinding together
On a grubby hormone-filled dancefloor.
Cheap drinks
And cheaper perfume.
A taxi ride shared
Through grubby streets,
Bodies lying together
On sweaty sheets.
She lies beside him
And plans a future.
He lies beside her
And plans an escape.
Eve
niamh May 2015
Eve
I quiver
With anticipation
As your fingers
Trace a trail
Along my spine.
I catch
My breath
As you kiss
The line of my neck.
I arch
My back
To let you know
I'm ready.

If this
Was what it felt like
For Eve,
I would've eaten
The apple too
niamh Jun 2016
Within her eyes
The chance of without
Stops mine from closing.
niamh May 2015
Like light striking
Eyes that cannot yet see,
I thought I knew
What it was to love
But then there was you.
A tiny scrap of humanity
With eyes that couldn't see
But ears that knew my heartbeat.

And so I realized
That my eyes
For the first time
Could see.

The past made her want to die.
The future makes her feel alive
niamh Jul 2015
I would lose face
Without hesitation
If it meant
I put a smile on yours
niamh Sep 2015
I have lied my way
Through life
And spilled my truth
Upon these pages.
A persona presented
Face to face
Is lost within the ink
Of the pen.
Created by insecurities,
Derived from expectations
Unjudged by blank sheets.
Only those who read me
Truly know me.
niamh Dec 2015
I fell in love
With the man
Behind the mask,
The actor
Beyond the
Performance,
The tears
Under
The smile.
I fell
Without looking
For a rope.
I fell
And still fall
And smile
While I do so.
niamh May 2015
He set her upon a pedestal
But she hated heights
niamh Jul 2015
Beyond the veil
Of the spellbinding falls
Lies a cave
Of no light.
Clever creatures make
Their home
Where nobody hears them
Over nature's roar
And eyes deny
What they see.
