I used to waste my words
On the things we've been through
Though now I realize
My words are worth more
Than every thing you've
Put me through
Which is why my words
Are through with you
Rid me of this bitterness
It's getting the best of me again
They try to help, but I protest
Thinking I can carry on
Trying to pretend

Rid me of this jealousy
It's hard enough to just let you be
I could not believe my eyes
But somehow I'm not surprised
That you weren't the one for me

Rid me of this aching heart
Everyday I fall apart
I'll just drown in my own pride
And set the love aside
So that it seems like I felt nothing at all

Wearing hate as a disguise
Truthfully hurting inside
I can forgive
But I will never forget
Letting you in, will remain my biggest regret

She was the kind of girl
Worth dancing with
In the middle of the living room
To the music
Of late night television.

She was the kind of girl
Who made the sky dizzy
Whenever it looked down at her
Because she was
More vast than the sea.

She was the kind of girl
You wanted to kiss
In each and every snow drift
Because her lips
Were warmer than any jacket.

She was the kind of girl
Who held you at night
     And whose arms lingered
Because when she was gone
You still felt her around you.

She was the kind of girl
People drag themselves
From their beds and walk to work
Because they needed to care
For a necessity like her.

She was the kind of girl
Who made you trip over
Words you wished were nearly as lovely as her,
Because she was the embodiment
Of all you ever wanted to say

To swoon the stars and put the moon in your back pocket.

The sky is a fading blue
As the ground turns grey I lay here with you
Our heads start to spin as the ceiling fans dim
Filled with pink thoughts of a greater tomorrow

But our color is draining; we're no longer rainbows
The door swings open and here comes the fables
That we have to speak to save our skin
From being stripped of our colorful sin

Does this seem right? Does it seem fair?
This planet is dull and filled with despair
"Be who you are, unless you are you!"
Is what the old men are telling our youth
