An Ode to Netflix
lauren Jan 2018
I really should be studying, I know,
but I can’t help logging in.
I’ve done some work today already, though,
would one episode be a sin?
Just to check on the friends with the apartment and the purple door,
or maybe the ones from the Scranton office who sell paper.
I also want to know what Eleven is up to,
and definitely Rory and Lorelai Gilmore.
I’ll curl up with a blanket here and i’ll make some popcorn later.
I think this was a good decision — it does say “Recommended For You.”

when i'm alone
lauren Jan 2018
snowflakes are prettier when I’m alone

when i walk with my face up towards the sky
smiling goofily to myself

when i twirl around pretending i’m in a movie that no one is watching
because no one is if no one is there

and i like it that way

Mesmerized
lauren Jan 2018
When I walk under a tree,
I always look up.
I watch the branches that are closest to me
as they move past, seemingly moving faster than
the branches further up the tree.
It’s a mesmerizing illusion.
Because in fact the branches are not moving at all,
I am the one who’s moving.
Like the earth moves around the sun.
Like the sun moves around the milky way.
A little cog in a factory somewhere.

Irony
lauren Jan 2018
(n.) a state of affairs or an event that seems
deliberately contrary to what one expects
and is often amusing as a result.

This is a story about
a girl and a boy.

One day, the boy saw the girl sitting alone and
he sat next to her.
They talked for hours,
but they left without saying what should have been said.

The next day,
they both wanted to see each other.

He went to the library hoping to find her.
She went to the dorm hoping to find him.

With sad eyes and a heavy heart,
the girl laughed a bit to herself.

In their hopes of finding each other,
they'd never see each other again.

i found a fish
lauren Jan 2018
someone wise once said
there are many fish in the sea,
and today i found out they were right.
a fish took one look at me
and the other fish was out of sight.

do you know me?
lauren Jan 2018
i think i know you

you have messy hair
and a cute smile

you are nerdy af
you can quote either star wars or trek by heart
doesn’t really matter which one to me
although i will argue with you that star wars is 100% better than star trek

you are probably smarter than me
but you’ll let me believe i am smarter than you
at least until i know you better

you probably think a lot
about deep crap that you’d rather not think about
i’d think about it with you though

you give the most amazing hugs,
which is good because i’m not known for mine
well, not yet
once i meet you, i give the most amazing hugs, too
