running through cornfields, brushing silken tops
we made our own paths, right through the crops
when we were children, we did as we pleased
God, how i miss that lake erie breeze

down by edson creek, through thickets we ran
we never thought twice, we played with no plan
we swam in the creek, we climbed in the trees
God, how i miss that lake erie breeze

the vermilion river's mouth, diving off the pier
carefree and wild, and we didn't know fear
when we were children, we had lives of ease
God, how i miss that lake erie breeze
It's usually too windy to be called a breeze, but the breeze was being young and carefree.

Two hours till Kentucky-
The world is on fast-forward around us
The side of my forehead is flat
against the passenger side window
Trees crowd behind guardrail for miles -
protesting highway pollution.

Two hours till Kentucky -
On the eighth round about this CD.
about around the fifth listen, songs began to blend into one another, morphing into ambient noise
that filled the empty moments between conversation
and the struggle against waves of tempting sleep.

Two hours till Kentucky-
I pause the song to explain
the biographical significance
of a particular lyric.
You're too focused on
the nerve-wracking traffic to indulge me.

Two hours till Kenricky-
My seat reclined, I am watching the clouds
creeping briskly across the sky
through the panorama of the windshield -
a silent movie.

Two hours till Kentucky -
an eternity of moments
gone as soon as they happen.
Evaporating into the air

We'll be there
in no time.

She called me again tonight
She didn't know who else to call and with the blood on the floor and the knife in her hand she couldn't ask her parents for help
She tells me, "I'm helpless."
She tells me, "I'm scared."
She tells me, "I can't fall asleep because of the fear."

I know the right things to say. I know how to get her to stay on this side for one more day. I know how to talk her down when her boyfriend isn't around to pull her back to the ground.

So I don't tell her that I'm drowning too. Because I'm the strong one, keeping her afloat. I'm the strong one, when the sea is so big, and we are just two young girls in this small boat.
you would always call me pretty. and even though I liked the sound of it I didn't want to hear it directly. I wanted you tell me that you like the freckle in between my nose because I'm so insecure about it. i wanted you to tell me that you love to hear me sing at the top of my lungs to try and make you laugh. or how you love the way I dance to old music I listened to as a kid. or how I laugh at my own stupid jokes because I think I'm funny. That the way I'm scared of the dark isn't childish, because you are too. I needed you to tell me that you love the sound of my voice, especially when I'm talking about something I love. or that you love listening to me play guitar, just because you know it's my favorite thing. Or the way I cry when someone dies on tv isn't stupid, but cute that I'm so sensitive. that you only tickle me just so you can hear me laugh. or that you like the way my voice cracks just before I'm about to cry. that you love the way I kiss you all over when you're trying to be mad at me. that you think it's funny how I'm grumpy in the mornings. that you think it's beautiful the way I can lose myself in a song. or how you love when it's raining, because that means you'll get to kiss me in it. that you fell in love with the way I would fall asleep on you because it would make you feel at home.
I wanted you tell me that I was so much more than just pretty, that I was your whole world. I didn't want to pretty, I wanted to be so much more.

Come on down to china town, where the rice is white and the chicken brown. The beef is sweet,  spices ground. Rice sweet and sour.  Shrimps rolled in duck sauce and shifted flour. Soup on the side, with soy and curry powder.

Einstein's Relativity tells us that time slows at fast speeds,
So much so that it stops when travelling at the speed of light.
As you look up at the stars tonight think of this:
The photons that travel across the universe to your retina,
Are created in the depths of a star and destroyed within your eye,
In the same instance.

Reading the air , salt hanging on the lips of this breeze
current spray travels inland          far beyond beach dunes
rolling in
with the edge of a storm breeze and the unmistakable smell of
almost-ready-to-fall rain.

The sky is full of winter sun.
It's cold yet sparkly.
Let's have fun.
After all things said and done.
It's a glorious Sunday,
We fought the wind and raindrops.
Guess what,
Came safely through the storm of Boxing night,
We won!
