Story after story
Displayed on stories upon stories
Of multiple library floors
In large spacious rooms

On and on they go
Lined on shelves dauntingly high
Or Child-level low
Artful as featured works in museums

We congregate with hushed voices in examination
Yet we can touch them
We are invited to
We can reach out and remove a piece of history

From the ancient days of scrolls
To the modern pages
We pull them from their places
To discover the wonders within

Sharing in the joy that emanates
From the joining of imaginations
A connection so powerful
It unites the hearts of strangers

We lose ourselves for hours
In our favorite chapters
With our beloved characters
Whom we come to love as precious friends

Reading ignites the imaginative powers of the self
And it all begins by pulling a book off of a shelf

Till you can’t walk
Till you are sore,
Yet still smiling
from the thrilling experience,
Till you are sweating pleasure
from every pore.
Till your breath murmurs
my first name with every inhale
Till my voice is the only sound
your ears need to hear.

i would
rest my head on your breast
and listen
Enjoy the sweet tunes composed by
every noted word you harmonize

Tales of your life stories before they became entwined with mine
Narratives about your dreams
About who breaks your glassy heart
And what tickles your eye-ducts
into opening a flood of tears.

an inner world of wishes
she deserves beautiful things,
The Nubian Queen,
Sunflower Child.

inspired and dedicated to my muse - a banquet of beauty, a model of black excellence and a colourful character and a bubbly spirit. God bless her soul.

My-broken-heart
My mind is on overdrive,
Currently working overtime,
I'm overthinking and its slowly killing me.

My-broken-heart
I am a fortress
I am strong and capable and determined
I will defend the ones I love until my very last breath

I am a fortress
I stand tall and proud and confident
I will protect and preserve until my very last breath

I am a fortress,
So then why can I block the positivity
but let the negativity flood in?

I am a fortress,
So then why can I brush off the compliments
but be struck by criticism?

I am a fortress,
So then why can I shield myself from happiness
but be exposed to pain and sorrow?

I am a fortress
I will always protect you
But can I ever save me from myself?

now I send letters into space
Hoping that some mailman somewhere will track you down
And recognise you from the descriptions in my poems
That he will place the stack of them in your hands and tell you,
There is a girl who still writes you, she doesn't know how not to
