Before showers of a shipwreck aged the cobwebs within the expansion of time to become a new day, I felt the breeze of you.  Your laughter kept me awake and wrapped my sleep, in hours. There, I walked in places, where all your gardens grew.

I whirled in the comprehension of your candle’s light encased in a thousand thoughts of last year’s stars, their immortality.  Yes, I’m still here upon this throne held captive by your smile.  The very image keeps darkness frozen, far away from me.

The fragrance of your mind is the mirror my soul admires in a silence that winds the threads that trace your lips.  Here is the place where I hear music that says, “I love you”, inside of memories.  My words fill up this page and your heart tastes each sip.

was he loving
was he kind
did he always speak his mind

was he thoughtful
was he warm
did he listen, and conform

was he faithful
was he loyal
did he tinker, did he toil

was he patient
was he tough
did he dream, big enough

was he funny
was he wise
did he brim with dull surprise

was he humble
was he vowed
did he always make you proud

was it sudden
was it slow
was there nothing left untold

was he ready
was it time
was forgiveness left behind

Where Shelter
the unthinkable is our specialty

~

there are special periods of varying length
when we are given grants of capability
where solutions transferable like shared salt drops
and red gummy bears

you need, I believe, and the
no contract is signed and commissioned,
belief is suspended,
for the eyes have the evidence,
the ayes win the nomination,
the shaken but unbreakable longest kiss
secures the deal,
and the local island newspaper banners a headline,

“miracles on the island expand contagiously!”

this is when
this is where
one walks the streets and the dirt roads
sing song smiling,
the tide always incoming,
the peeks of sun
perfectly strong,
installing a feeling
of safe and home and not alone

where is shelter?

here here,
here is shelter,
hear is shelter,
in words and deeds and on our
embracing fingertips

Baby
can you see
Through the tears?

I can see the pain
Through your smile
You think you hide

I could see past
The illusion
in your eyes

Dry your eyes
Rise anew
Because baby
I see you
And
I feel you
With my soul

It is not an illusion
I want to love you forever
In a billion different ways

Darling
My only only fear

Forever,
may not be long
enough

I had already received
My allotted amount
Yet once again this crazy life
Has me down for the count
Trying to explain
Is the hardest thing
If it weren't for being poetic
I could never break free
Words are the only thing saving me!

Thanks Sally for reposting this, I never did figure out who put all those negative thumbs downs under everybody’s comments or why they did it, even hello poetry can be a mystery.

There shall be white words
To praise Love's creed
Ruled out by courts of reason
And traded saint by saint
To merchants of salvation

There shall be black words
To mourn the season
Rising out of ailing credence
Turning healers into dealers
Under the tubes of  loaded laws

There shall be red words
To brand Love's defeat
With scars of history
while tenor of last lines
Chase an undying dream...

Walter W Hoelbling
they told me
my father died quietly
in his sleep
at 2 a.m.

with his pain-ridden last years
I think he was not unhappy
to go farther for once
return to the cosmos he came from
wake up painless
     at peace
floating in the universe
he had admired from mountain peaks
all of his life
