Sling me under the sea.
Pack me down in the salt and wet.
No farmer's plow shall touch my bones.
No Hamlet hold my jaws and speak
How jokes are gone and empty is my mouth.
Long, green-eyed scavengers shall pick my eyes,
Purple fish play hide-and-seek,
And I shall be song of thunder, crash of sea,
Down on the floors of salt and wet.
          Sling me... under the sea.
The Art Teacher

for the one whose initials mean morning

"teaching art isn't about teaching art. it's just about letting people be - letting them be them, showing them it's ok. i don't know...that's why i like it. everyone is so scared...i like to try to show them they don't have to be afraid."

~~~~~~~
writ by one woman,
an art teacher
whose young life story
is a chain refrain,
put it on me,
put it down right on me
her see
nowadays
is her sea
of nowadays nothing but troubles,
ocean thirteen fathoms deep
what hasn't gone wrong,
just wasn't worth
being put on the list
we all need someone to lean on,
so here I am,
leaning on her,
surprise!
her prize,
a strength so profound
when depths plummeted,
she curses the dark deservedly
then writes me
another poem and
her sinking ship
never goes under,
despite life's repeated
offensive attempts
to play her,
down after down
you see she gets it,
not quite rightly,
she
is an artwork,
momentarily
needy for a frame suitable,
and I,
well,
am in a museum gallery
admiring her,
for she is great
art,
and from great
trouble,
her art grows greater,
her persona painting
simpler and straighter
so here I am thinking
student minoring in art,
think she is an art,
a teacher majoring
in teaching how to be
so here I am laughing,
my pandora gremlin
does it again,
playing games,
first "Lean On Me"
and then
"Let It Be"
so let her be,
so she can teach
the art of letting us
be
musta paid extra for this pandora
service that reads hearts and minds
for as this concludes,
it "plays"me for,
Tom Petty is singing me a lullabye,
"I Won't Back Down"
I went to the park today
and marveled at the ducks gliding across the pond.
Above the surface,
smooth sailing, graceful, serene.
When just below,
their webbed feet,
kicking like hell,
struggling to keep going.
You
I don't like change
I don't want to realize you're leaving
I don't like being without you
I don't like the emotional dependence
I want you to stay
Even if you may
Or may not
Want to be the one
I find the comfort of depression
The sweetest kind of aggression
See?
That's how it feels
Being dumped
Being dumb
Being saved
And then
Just to know all that happens after you leave
take-off of Say Something*
Speak to me, I want to trust in You
I’ll be the one, if You want me to
Anywhere I wanna follow You
Speak to me, I want to trust in You
And I am feeling so small
I tried trusting myself
But I knew nothing at all
And I might stumble and fall
I’m still learning to trust
To listen to Your call
Speak to me, I want to trust in You
I’m sorry that I didn’t listen to You
Anywhere I wanna follow You
Speak to me, I want to trust in You
And I will swallow my pride
You’re the One that I love
With Your arms open wide
Speak to me, I want to trust in You
I'm trying to change, come back to You
And anywhere I wanna follow you
Speak to me, I want to trust in You.
