Sometimes at night

asleep by the firelight

I dream about them

how they died

some are singing

and others saying what

they no longer see

walking fencelines

limping as if in pain

some of them handsome

and some mysterious

silent but not

for long they tell you

men scarcely know

how beautiful fire is

and old stories

they can't remember

unless you can

still look them in the eye.

*and no matter what I do,
no matter how it hurts,
I can't take back the love I have given you
I just can't..
You can't take back love, you just stop loving, but what was given, was already given, wasted or not..

CURSING IS UGLY
CURSING IS FOUL
DOES NOBODY NO GOOD
NO WAY AND NO HOW

IF YOU CAN'T THINK OF SOMETHING
NICE YOU CAN SAY
DON'T LET 4 LETTER WORDS
GET IN THE WAY

UNEDUCATED
CURSING'S FOR FOOLS
MAKES YOU LOOK STUPID
TO TELL THE TRUTH

IF 4 LETTER WORDS
ARE ALL YOU CAN FIND
YOU'LL COME TO NOTHING
WHEN IT COMES TO LIFE

BECAUSE CURSING IS IGNORANT
CURSING IS VILE
DOES NOBODY NO GOOD
NO WAY AND NO HOW
He is born amid
dust blown from
burnt and dried plains
powdered grime carried
past the James River
conveyed though arid skies
pelting window panes
penetrating cracks
and crevasses

She dampens
muslim sheets
wraps them
around his crib
catching sand
and falling chaff
like a coffee filter
captures grounds
from boiling liquid
draining into the ***

He survives
exposed to
horrors of the 1930’s
gradually he grasps
a new catastrophe
symbolized by woolen
uniforms embossed
with chevrons
and metals
for bravely killing
and destroying uncles
and cousins
committed to expanding
the **** nation

She cries
consols Granny
who frets in vain
repetitively rubbing
her hands across her knees
fearful as her native
beloved homeland
becomes scarred
war torn by
death and torture
beyond imagination.

He recalls crouching
beneath wooden school desks
practicing survival
of an unsurvivable danger
while nations
race to discover
an explosive intended
to end all war

coniferous forms
dance in the umbra,
flickering oranges
of molten tongues,
of yellows and reds,
bathing the night;
its hungriness fed,
in the softened light.
like fingers it reaches
across the deep snow,
long shadows are creatures
in ember’s glow;
devouring consumption
as flames turn to ash,
like ravenous huntsman
his prey in his grasp.
a ghost in the darkness,
’neath a sliver of moon;
a howl in the stillness,
a shivering tune;
in patience awaiting,
straining to see
a dark horse arising,
’cross a bright galaxy;
the fire now low as
he aims and he shoots;
an eye for his target
ends a night of pursuit.
his prey is now captured,
his work here is done;
the camera now loaded,
his drive home’s begun.

the astrophotographer’s task is almost always lonely and usually cold during Milky Way “hunting” season. from the vantage point of Watchman’s Fire Lookout overlooking Crater Lake, a friend spends nights in a tent (or even an igloo), his only companion perhaps a campfire in the deep snow, chasing his dream of shooting the night sky.  his reward for his labors?  incredible videos and stills, caught in the lens of his camera... and our praise.  Matthew’s motto is simple - “capturing the light in the darkness!"  and what heavenly light he captures!  interested in seeing some of his work?  simply Google his motto!
When I lost her I thought
I had totally lost my radar
now I realize losing her
only made me stronger
Losing her gave me an opportunity
to strive and find a better version of me
to look in the mirror and find the flaws
upon which I drew beautiful lessons...
Losing her taught me how to build walls
when I notice am about to let wolves
into the sanctuary of my Heart
to have my world broken apart
and made me an astute judge at times
to endure the bitter cold of loneliness
than mess about kissing toads
Losing her created a great hole
of incompleteness in the center of
my Heart, and also made one thing clear
the One who would succeed in filling up
that gaping canyon would be worth
the better version I found while
trudging the boulevard of broken dreams
and surviving the waves and storms...
I thought I was totally lost when I lost her
but now I realize, I simply lost her to find me...
