When black swans sleeping
After the dark, lonely night
Awake to the light

© 2017 Jim Davis
My first attempt at a Haiku. After I wrote it, and then researching swans and their symbolism I found this;

"Swan Color Meanings
White swans in dreams are symbolic of cleansing and purifying ourselves and our lives. Black swans indicate deep mysteries within us that are longing to be set free to express themselves creatively - perhaps as Bridgid would have us do, in poetry or music."

There is also the "Black swan Theory"; "A  event or occurrence that deviates beyond what is normally expected of a situation and is extremely difficult to predict; the term was popularized by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a finance professor, writer and former Wall Street trader. Black swan events are typically random and are unexpected."
the vast sky glisters*
with millions of pinholes
on this clear bush night

we are fortunate
who view such a bright display
*its brilliance so grand
One of those days where the weight of it all
seems insurmountable
in the face of life, of men
and mice, of gods wronged
by mortal songs, o' those few,
Precious few, fated to cast dice
and any other animal who might.

I know to be content
all I must do is stand here
in the drizzle during the witching
hour, all I must do is
feel the morning dew after it's coalesced,
Its moisture caressingly laid on each fine blade
of grass, all I must do
is breathe the afternoon mist, take in this fresh air,
All I must do is stride
thru nightly fog, taking it in; and above all, be present
while I can, all I must
do is appreciate that I
am
getting better.
I have a fairy by my side
Which says I must not sleep,
When once in pain I loudly cried
It said "You must not weep"
If, full of mirth, I smile and grin,
It says "You must not laugh"
When once I wished to drink some gin
It said "You must not quaff".

When once a meal I wished to taste
It said "You must not bite"
When to the wars I went in haste
It said "You must not fight".

"What may I do?" at length I cried,
Tired of the painful task.
The fairy quietly replied,
And said "You must not ask".

Moral: "You mustn't."

A Tango
My lips would roam
not only on your lips
but down to your neck
and your thighs.

Will you blame me
for missing the times
I get to kiss you?

My dear,
I'm a mess
but I miss you.
[ I smooched the hell out of you ]

Love in words,
Laid on paper,
Dying as snared rabbits,
Struggling and losing life,
As they fall from the mind.

The truest meaning hidden
Behind a reality,
Of black and white,
And the starkness of lives,
Facing the mundane.

Searching for truer words,
Each time,
To express a love,
Greater than earthly words,
Can convey.

Searching for fleeting thoughts,
Like fireflies flashing,
In an early darkness.
Captured for the jar,
To behold with wonder!

Searching for words,
Unique as snowflakes,
Enough needed,
For a glacier,
To fill the valley void.

Searching for meaning,
In three decades of time,
Lived apart and together.
Like torrents of rivers,
Joined in the sea!

A letter and a love
that holds fast,
And will last,
And last, and last,
Until words of heaven come!
