You will know I can't stay here

I belong to the shadows of  night

Your kisses are so sweet but your embrase I can't keep

I belong to the dark side of the street

I can see the moon in your eyes
My heart aches for your loving sighs

But I can't stay here or
I will be undone

I can't be your year after year

The clouds race by your window calling out and telling me it's time to go

As I slip your head from my chest
I ease out and get dressed
Leaving you asleep on the pillow

You will know I couldn't stay here
For I belong to the shadows of night

It was a slow drizzle
And then a hurricane
And now I’m shelterless, floating on a raft  of grief.
And I wonder if the rain will ever stop
Can I paddle out of love with you?

As I lay here watching your favorite show
Which became mine
I think of how much I moved my heart towards yours
And how much you ran in the other direction.

And it’s sad.
Not because I love you
But because you will never love like me
Until you let go

depression doesn't care
if you've got millions of dollars
or you're just getting by.

depression doesn't care
if you've got loving friends and family
or you're all alone.

depression doesn't care
if you've got a successful career
or you're unemployed.

depression doesn't look at your life situation.
depression is a mental illness, not an emotion.
depression doesn't care.

When you kissed me
Gravity lost its restraints
My feet dangling above the ground
Elated, transcendent
The clock wasn’t ticking
The earth wasn’t rotating
Length, depth, height
Were memories
Every dimensional fundamental ceased
When you kissed me

you never truly leave me,
you’re stuck in my sheets
and the clothes I wear
deep in my bones
entwined with my hair
lingering in my room
like ghosts of our pasts
a solemn reminder
that everything lasts
