A black bird on a bridge side
Sitting slightly on an incline
Tilts its head somewhat oddly
And squints at the wind as if he sees it passing
Is it too heavy a breeze
To fly with ease?

Good Morning squirrels
Stay safe and happy today
Dear Sky, You have to rain but can it wait for me to finish today?
You soaked me through a few times already
Trusty umbrella and a bottle of iced diet green tea at the ready
My miles help animals and me with an app that measures my distances.
They help me get on with it by walking

My eyes don’t soften
anymore
when I see yours
return my glance
Or when I find myself
staring at your outline
in the dark, cold night

The pit of my stomach,
hollowed out
to fit the misery
of being overjoyed
And when I find myself
thinking for too long
it becomes hard to avoid

Because your eyes never softened
for mine-
first, second, third,
fourth chance
You could never find yourself-
you’re just an outline
drowning me in your dark, cold night.

First thing I do when
I get to work
is hide

Because a good employee
is hard to find
