it could be any time really
the daylight is not yet here
and
the night steals a bit more
of me.

are those fireflies
or neurons misfiring?

it's too early for me to switch on
but the kettle doesn't seem to mind.

can i be a seashell?
part of a whole
forgotten, buried in sediment
slowly chipping away
and turning into sand

can i be a seashell?
found amongst the grain
an incomplete half
yet kept solely
because they found me pretty

can i be a seashell?
a collector's item
displayed on a shelf
collecting dust

it's better than wasting away
only to get kicked up
or thrown in someone's eyes

i wish i was
a seashell.

i became an island
wrapped myself in an earthen blanket
and crawled into the ocean

i slept, the most peaceful sight
fetal position as i embraced nothing

i became an island
lost at sea
disappearing in the high tide
my sandy shores raked with coral
under the moon

under the moon
when i rise
to watch the waves lick at my soles

under the moon
i became an island.

summer passed
quietly in the night
said his final words
in a mumbled phrase
drunk off of a morning haze
stuck in a dazed state

it didnt phase me
at first
nor did i notice
when his body turned limp in my bed

summer passed
and he did so in silence
because he wanted me
to sleep
and to rest.

Break my bones;
cut my throat.
Pull me open,
learn the ropes.

Breath me in;
taste the fear.
Shank my skin;
stand and cheer.

Kick my head;
let me bleed.
Unbolt my veins;
enjoy the read.

Gouge my eyes;
punch my face.
Wrap me up
in your embrace.
Get to know me like I do you; inside and out.

"Keep your eyes closed, love. sometimes all you have to listen is to what the sound of the waves tells you to do."

When I was much younger, beaches were my second favorite places. I still love watching waves as they go by, crashing against each other and the whole process repeating all over again.
