"sardinia" poems
when we are home
and towels are hung to dry,
when the clouds are soot and black
and blue is shy
when the waterbed is hotter than the sun,
when the soppy christmas ******** has begun
I will think about this summer
and how warm
the sand was,
and how we owned the dawn
when I walked with you
along a gold foot track,
with suncream sweethearts tanned onto my back.

My hand loses it's grip, and the string falls onto the concrete pavement
I remember a colourful mosaic floor of a restaurant in Sardinia
and a carved carrot that looks like a flower in thailand
and being told to wipe with old newspaper to avoid smears when cleaning windows
and the moon is not the same way up in both hemispheres
suddenly my friend is here again, "I told you not to let go of it" he laughs.

She sips tea with her son in a Tunisian tent
Orange and blue scarves sun-bright in summer
Mitsubishi motors mandatory for desert trek
Sardinia is two hours and a lifetime away.
Pensive thoughts on a desert dune heaven
Life can slip through the fingers like sand
Grasping the chance to live in the moment
Arabian nights’ stories for next week’s kids.

Twenty and two years have passed, feels like a millennia.
I left my heart and soul on the dock of Palau, Sardinia.
I can remember my love and I bathing in the Mediterranean Sea.
Love making under a midnight sky, the moon, my Sophie and me.
She kissed me with a passion that was non contested.
Held me with a strength of faith and none could test it.
I can see her dancing at the Piazza due Palme where we use to
meet friends and mingle.
She always said whenever she looked at me her insides would tingle.
It must have been true for her brown eyes would shine…
It never occurred to me that she would not always be mine.
I don’t know why I thought about her so much today…But anyway.
It’s been twenty and two years since Sardinia.
