Puff Piece
Tommy Johnson Jun 2014
The carbon copy told me he'd box my ears in if I didn't shut my mouth
His threat is concise
But I disregarded it entirely
Now I'm cockeyed
And entirely pumbled

Go on
Keep on dropping names
Insinuate that she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth
We need another you like we need a hole in each of our heads

Show me precisely where you gave it to her good
Show me the love stains on the bed sheets
We're you shooting blanks?
I think so

I'm done with this guy and all this idle blathering and his besmirching of the reputations of people he doesn't even know

What Happened to Poetry?
Tommy Johnson Jun 2014
What has happened to poetry?
It's just some topic of study in English class
Remember when it was important?
When it was used to express real feeling and thought, to provoke and evoke, to paint beautiful pictures with words
Now it's "***** ****" it's "gay", "a waste of time", "tldr", "I don't get it"
People say it's too hard getting published
"No one will ever see this", "I'll never get known" And the ones who do write with hopes of getting published are either humble and talented craftsmen of words who no one takes time to read or appreciate
Or pompous, pretentious poets who use relatable themes to gain a larger audience but give them nothing of value
Nothing to hang their hat on, a plate with nothing to eat on it
I object o shock value, boring sonnets, stiff forms, Hallmark sentiments  and predictable works
**** them, poison these "writers"
Slice their bellies open, break their hands
Shoot them in the throat
Make them drink our ***** as an act of penance and save this art form and bring it back to light, along with insight and intelligence

It’s true that time has shown
All the things that I didn’t know
Everything from before
Time has really shown

Time has been kind to me
Making it all easier to see
I’m happy just to be
Times been so kind to me

It's been a long while since then
It’s been a long while since high school
I can’t remember what happened there
Not how or why or who

It’s true that time has shown
Which path I’m going
In what direction I’ve been thrown
It’s true that time has shown

It's true love is blind
Any girl that I will find
I swear I’ll make her mine
It’s true that love is blind

It’s been a long while since those day
It’s been a long while since I met you
So many fond memories
So many recollections to look through

I read the time on my phone
In my basement all alone
In a different time zone
Time for you to come back home

It takes a while for me
It takes a while to get used to
All these changed
But I know, yes I know
What I was do

Thank you for your undivided attention

I've recently come across my old poems and songs from 2009-2012

And I'm going to be posting them, so read, comment and share

But be advised, my writing was not as developed back then but I want to show you another part of my soul

Thank you :) , much love to all of you

You need to climb to the highest height
Or stay up till the end of night
Or fight an endless fight

Come on out and greet the dead
Come see where their choices lead
Their finals words left unsaid
The cannibals, the ******

It wont't last forever
It’s now or never
Nothing's forever
Get it together

Now they're all out of sight
They fought with all their might
In that endless, endless fight

Come on out and greet the dead
Come see where their choices lead
Shot on sight bleeding red

It lasts forever
It’s now or never
Nothing's for ever
Get it together

Passing Thought #2

We are given life
We are given our lives
Then we are told
What the way to live our lives has been for years

You get a name
You learn a language
You hear the rules
You follow for you do not know any better

In the middle of what was and what might be
I reside in the sunlight between the trees
Left alone, denied
So far gone
Have we all gone?
Right and wrong
Are never shown
Lopsided out of place
Unidentified
Jealous bouts between the two

Above The Sky
Tommy Johnson Jun 2014
The flame elevates the basket
And pulls us off the ground
As we catch a few winks in the clouds
Like paper lanterns being let go
We look at the green patches of land below
While the people look up and see us float away

We sing the tune
And top the moon
And we will soon be
Above the sky

Our watch has stopped
The sun has dropped
The stars cannot reach us
Above the sky

We are all
Above the sky

We've passed the beams of Venus
And danced on the rings of Saturn
Felt the gales of Neptune
In a humble, wondering manner
We drift by the heavens for a moment
Then head to eternity

Our rainbow parachute
Will take me and you
Some place bright and new
Above the sky

Somewhere unfathomable
Unthinkable by human mind
Out of the box, outside the lines
Above the sky

Beyond existence
Above the sky

Planes of reality
Relative of planes
Aircraft
Crafted air
We're here

Four Day's Time
Tommy Johnson Mar 2015
In four days time
I will set my sights
And clear my mind
And do what I need to do

I cannot stay here
I;m suffocating
The waters rising
Now I'm drowning

I think you know what I need
I need to be on my own
Its time for me to go

This is hard for me to do
But deep down I know
The right thing for me to do is go

In a different life
On a different plane
I’ll find the answers
Or maybe even more questions

Don’t mean to hurt you
Gone like water down the drain
Ill take all the blame
I think that I should go

I think you know what I need
I need to be on my own
Its time for me to go

This is hard for me to do
But deep down I know
The right thing for me to do is go

Much Too Far
Tommy Johnson Dec 2013
Fell from the sky
And took me away
Destiny called me
I ran to it

I learned of their ways
Stronger than others
They killed my mother
Kept my love a secret

More machine than man

I strayed from my path
I just wanted more
I was set aflame
And lost my love

Graciously saved oh
I walked a new path
Destroy anything
That got in my way

Stop me if you can

Trapped inside
Twisted mind
World is mine
Hide my fear
My anger
Suffering

Maybe I’m wrong
No you we’re right
I leave the dark and see the light

Trapped inside
Twisted mind
World is mine
Hide my fear
My anger
Suffering

Exhaustion on Route 4
Tommy Johnson Dec 2013
I know I haven’t much time
And everything you say I’ll keep in mind
I’ll ponder it on my journey home
Maybe I’ll forget all my woes

My eyes have seen the sun of tomorrow’s dawn
They have seen the witnessed yesterdays rights and wrongs
But for now I am tired so I yawn
My times expired and over drawn

I Got Dis
Tommy Johnson Dec 2013
No matter the pain I’ve survived
No matter the losses I’ve thrived
No matter the times I’ve been denied
I shall never stop living this life

Sure my ways and values will change
And maybe thoughts and action will be rearranged
And I know this life is very strange
I’ll live it to the fullest each and everyday

New beginnings a fresh start
The newest chapter another part
A sequel and an epilogue
No turning back now I’ve come too far

Too many places to be
More of a person to be
Even more people to meet
Womb to the grave it’ll all be me

The Man on the Moon
Tommy Johnson Jul 2014
I'll save my money for a rainy day
I have filled up tube socks like no one else I've ever known
Tucking it away for my trip to see The Man on the Moon
He's someone who's like no one else I've ever known

When all is quiet in the dead of night he sends out screaming shooting stars
I know it's The Man on the Moon when I look up
When the tides come farther in to touch the shore
I know it's The Man on the Moon when I look up

Here comes the sun, hide your bills in your cash box
Expenditures bigger than any other I've ever known
It burns a hole right through my pocket
Deeper than every hole I've ever known

When it rains and it tastes like moonshine
I know it's The Man on the Moon spilling his cup
When it's a crescent and I see a fishing line
I know it's The Man on the Moon pondering I don't know what
When it shines so bright at midnight
I know The Man on the  Moon is looking down at me
When it's full and it's just right
I know The Man on the Moon is at peace

Now every one down down here thinks he's a lunatic
With all his lunar antics some kind of ludicrous
I tell him this, he has a laughing fit and ask how he's the clown
When we live on an over populated rock with gravity that just keeps us down

When the sun goes down and it comes up
I know The Man on the Moon is wide awake
I see it rise, oh what luck
The Man on the Moon has until day break
Here it is it's in orbit
I see The Man on the Moon swimming in his craters
When the light comes he is merely dormant
But in the darkness every moment with The Man on the Moon I savor

Hello
Tommy Johnson Mar 2015
Whats your name?
Where you from?
What do you like?
What do you hate?

I see
Tell me your story
I'm curious
So amaze me
You're so pretty

Come on
Tell me your sign
You know
We got nothing but time
Don’t send me away
My interest is peaked
Make my day

So please
What's your talent?
What can you do?
There's gotta be something
Maybe name a few?

Well now
I have no idea
Where this will go
I'm an inquiring mind
Wanting to know

Visually your pleasing
And my brain is twitching
From your teasing
Tell me, whats on your mind?
Baby we got nothing but time

For Those Who Care
Tommy Johnson Jul 2014
There are thank yous to be given
To the people who have bestowed to me a voice
A chance
An opportunity to get my work out there to the public's ear

The people who give that to everyone wanting to display and demonstration raw self-expression with passion
The people who they themselves are artists as well
Writers, musicians, brilliant and enlivened

They bequeath to us platforms, podiums
Spotlight center stage soapboxes

Microphones waiting to have words of insight cascade into them
And amps bracing themselves to have those words erupt out of them
Onto an expecting and interested crowd

The smell of coffee
The smell of cigarettes
The taste of Burgundy
On my nervous breath

On the air
On the mic
I'm there
And I thank you all

For the chances you grant all of us
We who want to show the world what we can do and who we are
There needs to be more people like you, caring and ardent

With the utmost sincerity I give you my deepest gratitude

Here's to you

Shes's got her work cut out for her
She sells patio furniture with a hairline fracture
And puts the pain aside
She eats pulled pork sandwiches for lunch
But stays neat as a pin

It can get repetitious for her
So some nights after her shift she gets down at a bar in town
Amidst the drifters and prodigal sons
And tickles the ivory's
The whole bar gets to a stand still
When shes tells them all to get with it

But then without mention she stopped showing up to work
And no one at the bar hadn't seen her in a long time
She left for North Carolina
She left went to search for a new life
As the people she left behind simultaneously searched for her

Just roll the dice
Now it’s your turn
Where you’ll land
No one’s sure

This gamed called life
This game called pain
This gamed called love
It’s all the same

So what’s the prize?
None of us know
Win or lose
The wind still blows

Just another player
Just one more turn
Your almost there

Go all in
Spin the wheel

I’m just playing
For the thrill

Take your chance

Home
Home is where you make it
Home
Home is where you take it
And where you place it

Place it in people
Those who share love

Place it in nature
Toss it into the sky above

A house and home are separate
A house is just a place, where you can make it

My home is in you
And you and you

Your home is with me
Where there is peace

From a house made of glass
To that little patch of grass
Everything in between is where I reside

I’m so humble, I’m enthralled
Just to live in this world

So many places to be
So many things to be
I want to make them all my home

Making memories
Building bridges
In every end
There’s a new beginning

Look at this
Look at that
Present, future, past
There’s nothing to regret

I am me
She is her
He is him
And that’s just the thing

We are home
Wherever we all go
Home is where you make it
Home is where you take it
And where you place it

Whether on your own
When you’re all alone
If you look hard enough
You’ll find your home
Just bring a piece of it everywhere you go
And you are home

— The End —
