The sky was dark, and the rain pounded quickly against the fabric.
The world seemed depressed.
But
In that moment under my umbrella,
I found complete and utter joy.
I was soaked. but my smile was gigantic.
I saw a puddle and jumped in,,
The wind kicked umbrellas inside out, and people struggled to hold on. They were upset at first, but then they started to smile. It was contagious.
Laughter filled my ears and it was a perfect moment out of one that was supposed to be miserable.
I watch and
On a star light night
For a falling Star
As a confirmation
That an ambition
Will prove to be positive

If I see one
My confidence
Is improved
Yet I still know it is a wish
That I make as it falls
Not an action

After all it
Could be space junk falling
Or the fragments’ of a jet airliner shot down
Kind takes the fun right out of it
Wishing on
A shooting star
another passenger jet crashes worse yet gets shot down

If I traveled the mysterious labyrinth that is your mind,
Would I find your truth?
The secrets that you try to hide
The pain that makes you, you.
Would the world look so different
If I saw it through your ocean blues?
Would the path be less rocky
If I walked it in your shoes?
This wall you've built around you
Has stones that are made of mirrors.
There are cracks along the surface
And fingerprints on the glass.
There's a loneliness in your laughter
But your brave enough to smile.
And though you've seen plenty of storms
You see the sun behind the clouds.
There is strength in you stride
Even when problems weigh you down.
And though you've been hurt
You put your heart out there every once in awhile.
I may only have grazed the surface
But I know this much is true
There are a million tiny pieces
That make up broken beautiful you.
To David. i know that I barley scratched your surface, but this is what I've learned thus far

Riot
once upon a broken soul
there lived a girl
i while ago
who made sure everybody knew
her life wasn't her own
she took away her face
and that face she replaced
and put on what everybody else
was fit for her age, gender, and race

she did what she was told
she had the perfect amount of bold(ness)
and she tried her best
every day
to just
hold her own

but behind closed doors
even closed from her father
she knows she can never be the perfect daughter
she takes away her face until it's impossible to cry
and thinks every night
of how good it would feel to just say goodbye

but once upon a broken soul
there lived a God who still is so
who told a prophecy of her end

and in that God's holy being
he knows she will not completely cave in

once upon a broken soul
there was a heavy heart
and all this beautiful girl would need
was a chance to restart

once upon a broken soul
there live a chance for all
a chance for her
a chance for me
a chance to hear God's call

once upon a broken soul there live a purpose for freedom
and the chains you are forced to hold
will be freed again
