Filomena Rocca Nov 2018
walking the graveyard with a torch and a Sack
I once went with only the clothes on my Back
feeling full Force the weight of the Course
I'm obliged to continue along the dark Track
Wrote this one in my head while walking home from work a few months ago.

Gone are the seas of daffodils.
Gone the sunny green, the plains.
Gone are the green gored hilly hills
And gone the blue sea's blurry stains.

Gone everything, the curtain drawn,
The dream of yesterday's fond fears
Abruptly brought to what's beyond
The final "triumph" of our years.

All is dark where once was hue
And wet with slime, the years' long trace,
The stones they bare mute witness to
The death of this burned rock in space

And though they did not see the fall
And though they can not voice our pain
They will never disregard at all
The sad, still wetness of the rain.
Hints of Sara Teasdale and Ray Bradbury here.

Leaves fall in the space between
you and the truth
and me. Furious reds and bittersweet
ochres stain damp sidewalks and memories.

The cold and the dark conspired to ruin
this year. I let it collapse until I didn't,
and I wish I knew how
it worked itself out. But I don't.
it was a zillion degrees this week so I wrote a poem about cold weather.

Like the whole world through love I write,
To sight, to smell, to love I write.
All these words are here like a couple,
Oh drunken heart; you love, I write.

Spiral of iron, blinded eye. The rage
and the cold and the colossus sing.
Thunderous ghosts tread the wheat and the rye, ageless
these torrents and the ire they bring.

Calamity drifting, flood in the sky. The storm,
the storm will unmake you and me.
Lost to the water, strangled. Soaked.
Bones are the feast for the roots of the trees.

Cities extinguished, the stars burn alone, beyond
sight, beyond reach. The tempests play:
drown the mountains, the temples, the stories, the songs.
The water is rising, our verge is a wave.
Not usually one for rhyming poetry. Hope you enjoy!

Here I sit, collecting sunsets
while you are away from me.
I dissolve my silly regrets
in steaming mugs of tea.

I’d miss you more, I think
if it weren’t for the playful sea.
The waves tease me with a wink –
I’m easily distracted, you see.

The weather has been great,
these days I’m almost happy.
So I enjoy myself while I wait
for you to come back to me.

i only wanted to be quiet for a bit
my words had become empty of meaning
by embracing silence i thought i could
try to get in touch with what i was feeling

why the emptiness grew deeper roots
i never really understood the reason
my heart fell still, my blood ran cold
i felt more lost with each passing season
