It was the glint that caught my eye.
Split second moment.
A flash that pierced
through all flurry and rage.

I knew where it was.
I knew what it was.

Like a light switch flicked on,
a thought came on instantly.

It called to me as silent,
swift and sharp as it was...

It called for a plunge.

A plunge to release the red.
A plunge to relieve the pressure.
A plunge to end it.

I wanted so much to
but I did not take that leap.
Because where that
would’ve taken me,
there can never be a way back.

I've been treading water, trying not to drown
But I'm afraid, I'm finally going down
The waves are coming faster
And of self control I am no master
Should I hold my breath as I plunge
Or breath in the water and quickly this life expunge
I keep my eyes open as I am sinking
But I can't keep from blinking
When a colorful fish swims by
Then turned around and looked me in the eye
What he had to say gave me chills
"Why don't you just grow gills
We all must change and adapt
Or none of us would live through life's crap"
Wise words from a fish's lips
And if I survive, I'll never again eat fish and chips

I want to know you, the atlas that led you to today
The roads and paths you took, the footprints you left
The ones you tried to dust away
Moments where you felt repelled by present gusty wind
Eager to erase the future
And escape to the past
I want to connect to the entity that sits in front of me, the whole of your being
I want to fall into you slowly
Like a babbling brook
Talking too much too fast diving deep
Sliding over hard rocks in the way
Breaking cold ice
Breaking ideas or representations
I want to fall in

And we talked
Swimming in the deep oceans of our lives
Taking a deeper plunge into dark water
A little bit of sun lighting dreamy waves

we know now we want more, a life worth fighting for
we said our dreams would carry us

You lead me to the top of the tallest tower,
To show me how far we would fall.
And usually I’m afraid of heights, but now I’m not scared at all.
The wind at this summit softly whistles,
Such a strong sturdy breeze.
It carries your sweet scent my direction,
Now I’m drunk from the airborne disease.
It begins the intoxication,
And then its work is through.
But the other elements are waiting their turn,
They have important tasks too.
From the rooftop the stars twinkle brighter,
The spotlights turned on for the show.
And the one to the north takes a look at itself,
The blue of his eye where it glows.
Then the sleepy mind senses its next,
Because it perceived the spark.
And the contented stars smile down and gloat,
They know they've left their marks.
Conduits connect quickly, electricity rushes through.
A cold heart has been resuscitated, to perform the job it was made to do.
It pushes warmth into your fingertips,
It blushes the tops of your cheeks.
The adrenaline that it produces,
Gives you the bravery to move your feet.
Swan dive off the balcony, pulling him down as you go.
“Where are you taking me?” he asks.
You reply with a smile, “I don’t know.”
And the clouds panicked at the risky plunge,
As they watched you make the fall.
So they floated underneath you both,
A soft landing, once and for all.
As you both fell in the safety net,
The real destination you knew.
You breathless whisper could barely be heard,
