Moving Forward
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
The direction is headed toward progress,
But the trail can be presented with roadblocks,
Causing us to move back to the beginning.

Destiny’s tale tells a complex story,
Wanting you to reach the destination,
Yet offers tough barriers along the route.

Zigzagging through the mazes of life,
Fighting to reach the other side,
And you still return to the starting point.

Remain on course to the final location,
Because no matter how many steps are lost,
You can keep moving forward, advancing to bliss.

Panic Attack
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
Dread accelerates to terrorizing proportions,
As the abnormal fear response kicks into gear.

Your surroundings close you in,
Even when in an open field.

Panicking like a life or death situation,
Yet the conditions are completely normal.

Temperature rises to burning levels,
Feeling the heat ******* up your oxygen.

Heart rate climbs to a rapid pace,
Believing a heart attack is happening.

Whenever a panic attack occurs,
The key to survival is saying you will survive.

Being Happy with Yourself
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
Civilization will be your biggest critic,
Casting judgement on character,
Causing the shield to go up.

Personal attacks will come from strangers,
Harmful opinions come through the workplace,
And you will be stunned by loved ones.

Hearing those comments which scar,
And seeing those ****** impressions that disapprove,
Actions which can deplete self-esteem.

People’s negative perception is meaningless,
As long as you are happy with yourself,
Forming a stance that nobody can break.

When we are Angry at God?
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
When life doesn’t go as planned,
And nobody is to blame,
We tend to point the finger at God.

Blaming the almighty for catastrophe,
Losing all faith in God,
Rejecting the powerful from your prayers.

There are reasons why God enforces an action,
Sometimes we will see the bigger picture later,
And sometimes we won’t know until we are deceased.

Whatever happens to you in your life,
God always has righteous intentions,
Even when there seems to be no hope.

When Seeking Praise
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
Praise is the sign of showing success,
With the indication to express gratitude.

We don’t always get the required recognition,
As the compliments of others drive motivation.

Hearing those words stimulates the will,
Energizing us to keep producing glory.

Battling for approval for that joyous emotion,
Standing tall by experiencing high worth.

Even though acknowledgement is great,
Self-appreciation is what matters most.
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
With imperfections tearing us apart,
We feel like throwing in the towel.

Cruelty weakens the inner self,
Screaming inside for the intent to surrender.

Somehow, survival sets the will to live,
Providing the necessary strength to exist.

Because we don’t want to die,
The goal is to dominate the suffering.

Finding that second wind to endure the brawl,
Fighting all the way to the last round.

We usually finish the brutal battle,
Because life is too precious to quit.

Choosing Many Paths
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
If you only select one trail,
The odds of disappointment are high.

Creating limited options for success,
As you depend on a single chance.

When you choose many paths,
Numerous opportunities can be presented.

Searching the courses that leads to glory,
Trying to find the road which will open.

So if other possibilities fail,
Another route can offer bliss.
Michael LoMonaco Mar 2018
Trying to build a foundation from simplicity,
But life’s imperfections shifts into difficulties.

The desired route to easiness is disrupted,
As destiny's plan steers into a different direction.

Complexity rises as drama ignites conflict,
Setting a blaze that sparks catastrophe.

In order to extinguish the inferno,
Controversy must be confronted with logic.

Clearing the fires which could be abolished,
And coping with flames that can only be contained.

Ethics of Friendship
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
Seeking companionship to belong,
Becoming an alliance to form a bond.

Respecting a pledge to assist,
Helping a hurting friend when needed.

Yearning for that desire to share moments,
As togetherness fuels great memories.

Devising a blueprint to establish trust,
With the code of honor dominating ethics.

When having a friend you consider family,
Loyalty builds the bridge to true friendship.
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
When the pain magnifies,
Unhealthy habits can grow,
Adding fuel to the misery.

Instead, I become lost,
But I lose myself by involvement,
Getting active by being energetic.

Exercising the mind and body,
Whether I am reading a book,
Or working out my muscles.

Numbing myself through activity,
You can say being busy is a bad habit,
But it’s better that the demons of drugs.

When it’s not Meant to be
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
Effort strives for a goal,
Chasing a journey with intent.

Ambition runs at full exertion,
As purpose fuels the cause.

If victory isn’t the end result,
Discouragement can rise enormously.

Hopelessness shows signs of defeat,
With confidence experiencing a blow.

Sometimes, a pursued route won’t be found,
As destiny created a different trail to follow.

When one quest isn’t suitable,
Another path to success is usually discovered.
A free verse poem of pursuing another route.
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
The final chapter can arrive at any day,
Telling its last tale as the end draws near.

We are always concerned about survival,
Anticipating the next storyline with fear.

Let put our worries far aside,
And try to live for the week.

Existing to enjoy that upcoming plot,
Appreciating the interesting script as it unfolds.

There can be an intriguing plan ahead,
But first, we must open that amazing book.

Bumps in the Road
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
Traveling with caution to avoid bumps,
Approaching a journey filled with mystery.

Entering the unknown as destiny waits,
With the plot ready to tell its tale.

The riddle will unfold while moving ahead,
But fear rises by the threat of potholes.

All unexplored paths will possess danger,
No matter how safe we can navigate.

Continue on the trail with optimism,
Even though there’s the possibility of harm.

The Need to Feel
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
It’s like a meal,
As we try to heal,
Craving that need to feel.

Trying to win the war,
Opening up that door,
As the world keeps score.

We want to get ahead,
Not wind up dead,
When hanging on by a thread.

Winning that scary fight,
In order to see the light,
Ending the awful night.

Fighting the Inevitable
Michael LoMonaco Feb 2018
The barrier can’t be smashed,
But we still try to break the wall.

Attempting to shatter the roadblock,
So we can stop running through the maze.

Avoiding obstacles is the plan,
But destiny’s tale has its own plot.

Fighting the inevitable is impossible,
As the destination is already assigned.

We possess coping skills to handle stress,
Facing hardships ahead as the storyline unfolds.

At My Worst When Vulnerable
Michael LoMonaco Nov 2017
Doubting my true potential to shine,
Lacking the confidence to survive.

A soft blow will knock me over,
Collapsing as I am unstable.

Hiding to avoid showing weakness,
Scared to expose any signs of fear.

Attempting to display strength,
But fragility is easily noticeable.

Fighting to earn back optimism,
Trying to see bright colors.

Defeating the darkness requires courage,
A force that’s within myself and others.

Admitting that help is needed,
A trait that is hard to possess when frail.

Once I can reach out for assistance,
Recovery from vulnerability is possible.

Nothing Wrong with Average
Michael LoMonaco Nov 2017
The stigma from ordinary raises the bar,
Intensifying the level that’s regarded as success.

Society envisions a perfect portrait,
A picture with ideal coloring.

Black and white dye can possess boldness,
Yet life could judge the lack of bright colors.

The drawing still has the same meaning,
Even in the absence of glowing beauty.

When common is frowned upon,
Normal develops a bad reputation.

Artwork presenting stronger purpose is best,
Despite the masterpiece missing coloration.

If average offers powerful reason,
Design that great image with routine paint.

Michael LoMonaco Nov 2017
Determined to win.
Energized by the challenge.
Discovering the true path.
Intrigued by the cause.
Contributing hard effort.
Action speaks with purpose.
Taming all the dreaded fears.
Evolving weakness into strength.
Deciding that now is the time.
An acrostic poem of determination.
Michael LoMonaco Oct 2017
Preaching how trying your best is enough,
But the greatest effort is flawed when judging self.

Taking a stance of leniency with others,
Yet showing no mercy with your cause.

Considering second best in a race is outstanding,
But is looked upon as failure if sliver was rewarded.

The meaning of greatness doesn’t change,
Just because you are the participant.

Accept glory at face value,
No matter who is the contestant.
Michael LoMonaco Sep 2017
It’s like the same old show,
Moving at a certain flow,
Dating back many years ago.

With a repeating tale,
Leading to no more trails,
Seeking out brand new details.

Craving an interesting quest,
One unlike the rest,
Figuring out the best.

Fighting for the thrill,
And for the lack of a drill,
Needing a cause to fulfill.

The Competition amongst us
Michael LoMonaco Sep 2017
Witnessing imperfection at it strongest,
Seeing a contestant battle to be on top.

Observing dignity abandon principles,
Using the sword of honor for greediness.

Stabbing others to get ahead,
Putting one’s desires before righteousness.

I am also a sinner committing disloyalty,
As a flawed man living with human ambition.

When betrayal creeps up on the mind,
We must remind ourselves to stay faithful.

Dedicating our quest to a virtuous reason,
Or else evil destroys the meaningfulness of cause.

Powered through raw emotions.

By expressing this noun,
Many statements are being spoken.

Negativity is declared with strength,
Stating resentment at high levels.

Hatred presents ill will with passion,
Representing feelings beyond disapproval.

One word can change a sentence completely,
So use caution with each stated terminology.

Michael LoMonaco Sep 2017
While crossing this street,
Vehicles prevented me from walking,
Unable to reach the other side.

Loved ones tried to open a path,

But I resisted with self-dignity.

Pursuing the intersection to advance,
Determined to seek the route on my own,
Needing to find the destination freely.

Aware of all the hardships on the road,
Willing to seek out the necessary advice,
But must travel independently to claim glory.

Michael LoMonaco Sep 2017
Pain is usually a warning sign,
Telling you damage is being inflicted.

When cause unleashes agony,
Torment tends to have purpose.

Struggling with ambition up that cliff,
Striving for success to reach the top.

Recognizing the obstacles of the hill,
As reason provokes the will against anguish.

Commitment is the source of meaningful pain,
Battling the resistance for a special prize.

As you move with motivation,
Focused while having dedication.

Trying to be the best,
But first—you have to pass the test.

Running while breaking a sweat,

Michael LoMonaco Aug 2017
Fearing the predestined path is brutal,
As the heightened response dreads an upcoming plan.

Anticipating the worst scenario possible,
Stress takes its toll on the body and mind.

Dwelling the future route with scary predictions,
Panicking as alarms blare by not knowing the course.

The puzzle will be solved through time,
Playing the waiting game through fright.

Always focusing the on riddle is unhealthy,
Yet worry is a powerful emotion that is harsh.

Controlling anticipated anxiety is difficult,
But is manageable by forming a positive mindset.

Directing attention to structured activities helps,
Taking the cognitions to a place of harmony.

Pacing yourself towards the moment of truth correctly.

Repressed Memories
Michael LoMonaco Aug 2017
It’s those memories you forgot,
The moments that caused despair.

Times when tragedies lived,
Events that your brain doesn’t remember.

Incidents which inflicted scars,
Provoking trauma in the current day.

Those misfortunes must be healed,
For a positive present and future.

Recovery could take months or years,
But blissfulness occurs once peace of mind happens.
Michael LoMonaco Aug 2017
A vision plays out in the mind,
Creating a perfect design for an outcome.

Ideas blossom to construct a purpose,
Hoping nothing won’t block the strategy.

Somehow, obstacles stop the movement of progress,
Ruining a project which was well devised.

When situations don’t go as planned,
We feel like reason is destroyed.

Try to preserve the infrastructure,
And work on rebuilding the architecture.

If the fort can’t be maintained,
Form a secondary scenario as an option.

It’s unfortunate when a framework is damaged,
But there is always new an alternative to an aim.

And lovely appearances isn’t a contest,
But you feel great when well-groomed.

Or you are clean shaven,

Feeling happy with how you look,
Causing a chain reaction of positivity,
Showing optimistic behaviors that shine.

It’s about being pleased with yourself,
Displaying an image of confidence.

Always reliant on that big spark for joy,
Hoping a magical pill would save the day.

Waiting many years for that superb medicine,
But this moment didn’t come because it’s nonexistent.

Consuming contentment in little packages.

Attempting to sprint without discomfort.

Determined to reach the final destination,
Happiness prevailed as I crossed the finish line.

Hiding from Happiness
Michael LoMonaco Jun 2017
Society says hearing voices is crazy,
People claim smashing walls is lunacy,
But hiding from happiness is considered insane.

Involuntarily depressed with no shining star,
As the sun started to offer light,
Shadows still existed without any brightness.

Years of captivity kept old rituals alive,
Keeping that same routine living in misery,
As depression always plays that agonizing day.

Painful repetition needed to be broken,
Shattering sadness so bliss can enter,
Unlocking new gateways for contentment.

Once the passageway to pleasure opened,
Glory was capable of glowing,
Unleashing possibilities which now thrive.

The Purpose of Freewill
Michael LoMonaco May 2017

By doing a dance act through manipulation.

Humans are intended to put on their own show,
A play with people controlling the plot.

The tale basically has two themes,
A destined path to good and to evil.
